All the way to Florida (and Back)

My family and I embarked on a vacation to Disney and just got back recently... we drove from New York to Florida in my CX-7 :)
Family includes me and hubby and two teens, 14 and 19.

First off, Disney was a blast. Anyone who hasn't been, GO! It's so much fun. It's a tiring vacation unless you have two weeks and can rest on days inbetween park-hopping, but it's an awesome time... and "Test Track" is like the best ride ever! LOL

ANYWAY... all went really well driving the CX-7. We averaged about 24mpg all the way down and back (which is the highest, by far, I've ever gotten... here in NY driving mixed highway and city, I'm lucky to get 18mpg).

The ride was great... no problems with comfort or reliability. The air conditioning was fine, even in 100 degree florida weather. My newly installed Z2 (aftermarket nav/audio system) performed without problems, and live traffic reporting, and bluetooth did come in handy. iPod support worked perfectly and was essential to us on such a trip.

Biggest problem was THE BUGS. Anyone whose driven down south knows what I'm talking about, and I SHOULD HAVE at least rinsed off the car the minute we got down there and the minute we got back. I didn't. I finally washed the car today and had to use a clay bar to get a lot of the dried bug guts off... and yes, my paint suffered. Luckily, not TOO bad, only a few teeny tiny pits in the front bumper. Let it be a lesson... get bugs guts off your car right away!

I really enjoyed driving the CX-7 on a super long trip... it was both comfortable and fun. We had plenty of cargo space for the four of us for 10 days, which is really like packing for 4 adults. I really have no regrets buying this car. Coming up now on my 1 year anniversary (in November) I am absolutely satisfied with my decision to go with a Mazda.

My ONLY gripe is I wish I got this good gas mileage around home ;)

Thanks for the update! I wish we could take a long trip in our CX-7. We're planning on going from Vegas to Portland to visit friends but being that I have a company car, and just got a brand new one at that, it doesn't make sense. No matter, I will live vicariously through you on your long trips in the CX-7.

Oh, and good to hear your A/C was ok. Living here in Vegas with the days always over 100 degrees and on some occasions touching 114, I've always found the A/C working well and question those who think it doesn't.

Good to hear CXRabbit. I live in Fl and understand the "love bugs" and how they stick. Glad you had a great time. Ed

Yeah for some reason the love bugs were back the other day. I hate those things. They are a car washing nightmare.
