They any good? I saw a great price on one the other day and I've been thinking about picking it up. My powerbook titanium is getting alittle out of date and I want to replace it with a PC.

I'm looking mostly for comments from people who own them or have personally used them.

Why the move from a Powerbook to a PC laptop? The new MacBook / MacBook Pros are awesome machines.

Because you can get a better PC for cheaper.

The price difference really is not that much when you compare a PC notebook that is equipped with everything the new MacBooks are equipped with. Sometimes the price can be the same or even less for a Mac.

For example, I just priced out laptops with comparable specs on both Apple's and Dell's sites.

2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory, 80GB hard drive.

Only real difference was the fact that the Dell has a slightly larger screen (14.1" versus 13.3"), and the MacBook has a built-in webcam while the Dell does not.

Macbook: $1474
Dell Inspiron: $1563

You may want to wait a couple of months to buy a new laptop... especially if you end up wanting to stay mac. The Macbook Pro's are coming to the end of a cycle, and with Leopard coming out in 4th quarter, I would have to believe that Apple has somthing pretty spectacular coming out....

Except Dell has $500 off that config using coupon code VVM?RDFCRF75C5. There's pretty much ALWAYS a decent coupon that can be applied to every Dell computer - buying one at the posted online price is like going and buying a car at sticker price.

If you plan on running XP on the MAC, my advice is don't. Sure they can do it and all, we have them here at work dual booting, but it's a pita as the keyboards aren't really meant for Windows.

I wish Apple would just go away really.

(yes)

If they weren't so blasted expensive, I'd have a MacBook Pro.

No problems here in the least bit. The apple key is the windows key. Everything else is as labeled.

(shrug)

I can also run XP alongside MacOS X using Parallels without having to reboot.

The Mac is an overall better buy and if you ask me alienware is overpriced. I plan on buying a new MacBook Pro when the new OS comes out. Damn iPhone is halting development.
