Is it necessary to hit the lock button twice on the keyless entry to arm the alarm. When you hit it twice the horn sounds. Is that an indication the alarm is active. According to the book you only have to hit it once. I didnt even realize the car had an alarm. I previously hit the lock(on the keyfob) and then tried to open the door(through an open window) to see if there is an alarm. Nothing went off. Am I doing something wrong? It's my wifes car so I cant go outside and try it at the moment.

From the manual:

How to Arm the System

1. Remove the key from the ignition
switch.

(With advanced key)
Turn the start knob to the LOCK
position.

2. Make sure the hood is closed. Close
and lock all doors and the liftgate from
the outside using the key or press the
lock button on your keyless entry
system transmitter.

(With advanced key)
Press a request switch or the lock
button on the transmitter.
The hazard warning lights will flash
once to indicate that the system is
armed.

(Without advanced key)
The following method will also arm the
theft-deterrent system:
Close the hood and the liftgate . Press
the area on the door-lock switch
marked “[LOCK-SYMBOL]” once. Close all doors.

The windows need to be up
if someone is in the car and it is locked and turned off with every thing closed
when they try to open the doos the alarm will sound
so it wont protect you from a broken window, but when they reach in to unlock it it will go off, or if they slim jim it i suppose
or if they try to start it with out your chiped key
