Alarm & Keyless Entry

Has anyone either installed or had installed an aftermarket alarm & keyless entry for their Proteges? I have a '97 & my neighbor & I didn't have too much trouble putting in the alarm, but for some reason, the Prots only have 1 door lock/unlock wire that requires us to have a 4700 ohm resistor for the "lock" portion. Right now, I can lock the doors by pushing the door button, but as soon as I arm the system, it unlocks the doors! Thus the reason for the resistor. The problem is, I can't find anyone who carries that resistor. Any ideas? I'm also hoping that the new system doesn't wear down my battery with the constant connection of the alarm & the LED light flashing blue in the interior of the car....

hi, yeah I have an alarm/starter combo put into my 95 protege...the led would not drain your battery so don't worry about that...
as for the the resistor issue, yeah it is a one wire system and you definately need to purchase the resistors...I would suggest checking with any electrical stores(something that specializes in switches, relays that sort of thing)...i'm in canada and work part time putting this stuff into cars...i know all about it...fortunately for us, we have the resistors sitting on our shelves...

if you're able to get a resistors with a lower value, you can combine them to reach your 4700 ohms...hope that helps.

OK...glad to hear about the LED...as for the resistor, we got it installed yesterday & it took 5 minutes. I found the resistor at Radio Shack.
