Air Filter Cover

I use a fram air filter and it is exactly the same as the original filter i pulled out even the color. I had no problems putting the cover back on.

Yes, just got myself a few of the FRAM filters at a fraction of cost to an OEM filter. They do look identical to the OEM. However, FRAM filters are made in Mexico vs OEMs are made in USA--not that I care but it just feels better haha.

Crystal whitey. The mazda filter that you have is different in color than the original air filter i had pulled out of my cx9. The original filter i pulled out was the exact same color as the fram filter. Why is that? well anyway the frams are just as good to me as the oem.

If I recalled, the first filter that came with the car was in fact had an orange rim to it. I guess it's just a different batch Mazda made. I wouldn't sweat it though.

Ok guys... I just received my OEM filter (CY01-13-Z40A). Took out the old/dirty filter (orange rubber) and put in the new one (black rubber). When I tried sliding the cover back on, it does not slide back into the three slots. It's seems the new filter is sitting a little bit higher than the old one, making it practically impossible to slide the cover closed.

I am having the same issue - I also went to Mazda and bought the OEM filter, and it too is part number CY01-13-Z40A. There is no way I can get the air filter cover to slide back into those three slots!

Well, the K&N filter I bought was in the same situation. The rubber edge seems much thicker than the OE filter I had.
I had to put much more pressure downwards while sliding the cover into slots.
Another way you could do is to trim the rubber edges with knife a bit.
But, don't hurt yourself doing that.

I think I'll try the FRAM filter and see how it goes. I shouldn't have to modify an air filter or use unnecessary amounts of force to swap it out.

I returned the Genuine Mazda CY01-13-Z40A air filter and bought this FRAM CA10242 filter on amazon:

It fit much better - I didn't have any problems putting the air filter cover back on.
