air bag sensor

HI all i am new to this forum having just purchased a mazda 3 for my son. My issue is that my 80 pound other son when he sits in passenger seat seems to trigger the air bag to turn off. The dealer says it is set to 66 pounds but err's on side of caution.

The interesting thing is that in my girlfriend's mazda 6 it doesn't turn off when he sits in passenger seat. Does anyone know if the sensor can be calibrated? Has anyone heard of this type of issue in the 2010 3's?

I would really like to get this fixed as my son who i gave the car to drives my other son around and its kind of strange for him to be in the back. Not the end of the world but i would like to fix if possible.

Thoughts would be appreciated....

Thanks

i believe it's actually set for a range of up to ~80 lbs? i could be wrong, but you'd have to check with the dealer on the calibration piece. that's all computer related so nothing you can do solo. plus it's kind of riding the line anyways, as i'm not sure it'd be all too safe to have your 80 lb son hit in the face with the airbag if anything were to happen. that's quite a punch for 80 lbs. i'm not saying it's right, but maybe it's for the best! better safe than sorry.

plus it may be worth seeing if perhaps the 6 sensor is wrong or mis-calibrated?
