Aftermarket Stereo Install Questions 2009 GT

Hi folks,

New to the Mazda circuit and don't have all of my resources lined up yet, so I can't get any clear data on an aftermarket stereo install yet. I have an AVIC-D3 that I'm going to put in (the sooner the better) to my 2009 Mazda6 w/awful errr Bose stereo.

At first, I was going to just do the basics; get mounting kit and wire harness, get speaker harnesses and mounting rings (if needed) but it appears as if Crutchfield is in a black hole (like they were for my CR-V) and say nothing exists

Back here in reality, I've discovered that Metra makes a dash kit and there's harness, here's where things get odd. I don't know how similar the CX-7 BOSE and 2008 Mazda6 BOSE setups are . . . since I can see more options for those, I'd prefer to take that path if I can.

Honestly, I could care less about re-using the bose amps, since the only thing that sounds better on the stereo as-is are poor recordings of old children's music. If it's going to be a huge headache to just power aftermarket speakers off the new deck, I'll shell out a little more for one of the PAC adapters, but don't really see the need for that.

Is there a writeup that someone did that I missed of your basic "put a decent stereo in" installation?

I'll have the shop manual and wiring diagram by the end of the week, but if proper/full integration has been done already, that'd be a help too.

Here's what I've got so far:
Deck Harness 70-7903 is supposed to work on the Mazda6, but the 70-7903T "for the 2007 CX-7" looks like it will work for the 2009 Mazda6 Plus give me the ability to keep/change the clock. Has anyone tried this yet?

PAC's MAZATO appears to be a direct interface to the BOSE amps and speakers; it's pretty pricey and meant for the CX-7, but, again, if it works, it may be something I'd go for until I did something different for the speakers. Does anyone have this in their own vehicle?

Steering Wheel Controls - the PAC SWI-PS appears to be the correct module for the AVIC-D3 in this vehicle; again, anyone had luck with this?

Aside from crutchfield.com and installer.com, does anyone have a link for better priced harnesses?

Thanks folks.

I got the Pioneer AVIC F900BT installed in my 2009 Mazda 2.0 SW Sport by certified pioneer installers. I know they have included 2 adapters but don't know the references.

One thing I can tell you is that the steering wheel controls of the left side are not working and, at this moment, I can't control the trip computer. In my case it got "stucked" in instant consumption. This is the only thing that is bothering me. If you know of any interface that allows to get back the left side steering wheel controls to control the pioneer and the trip computer please let me know.

NICE!!! I want one.

Frocking thing isn't e-mailing me about responses :(

I *WILL* figure the computer stuff out. I have a female harness and everything, so even if I have to wire up the stock deck in the trunk, I'm going to get this G. D. thing working.

Honestly, this is the only thing that I HATE about my car.

It's easy enough to verify that you won't get the trip computer back . . . Check the accessory guide -> has 2 models of stereo with, and without trip computer. The only way to "fix" that would be to wire the ginormous disc player up in the trunk.

I may end up doing that. Incidentally, I was just looking at doing the same (aftermarket stereo) in a 2009 Tribeca . . . that's even a bigger kick in the you-know-whats.

What kills me is that people like myself would pay a few thousand to get a afermarket quality (not even pro!) stereo done up in a vehicle when you buy it . . . unfortunately, they've discovered that everyone else will pay the same for a poorly built "premium" sound system *sigh*

Lame.

Still working on this - they're NOT the same completely; I'm still plugging away at it though. Once I get it done right, for certain, I'll post with all the info.

Thanks again for the info though, it's one more point to cross-reference.

If you put in an aftermarket stereo will you lose the the satellite radio hookup and also the built-in bluetooth?

Not sure since I have neither of these set ups in my 6, but I know the AVIC-F90BT comes with a bluetooth setup of it's own out of the box, and if you want satellite, you have to order a seperate box/antenna. How do I know you ask? Because I just bought one earlier this week, should be here by saturday!(nana)

Yes. You lose both. Plus steering wheel controls for the phone & voice command. The bluetooth that comes stock is so sub-par that I'd replace it even if I kept the stereo.

I have more pics and details but I've been so super busy that it is all piling up.

Joey- if you have any question let me know - I'll see if I can answer them. Just do not rush during the install. Got part of a writeup done. Just need some time.

Ha trust me I will be taking my sweet time. The most complicated install I've done was taking out a tapedeck unit for a cd player HU and installing subs... So I will for sure take my time... probably wont do it this weekend... did you ever figure out the VSS cable?

Think I have it; wire is run but not connected. I HATE using scotch locks and I wanted to wait until I had time to undo the link if it's wrong or complete the splice if it's right.

let me ask my question again cause I don't think I worded right.... I have factory satellite in my car now if I replace the head unit is there a plug that will plug into the back of the new unit or do I need to have the JVC satellite box? The unit I have is a JVC KW-AVX820 I originally bought it for my Rabbit but traded that car in....

Your question is perfectly reasonable, my answer sucks however.

You'll have to get an aftermarket unit. The ONLY good news is that you could potentially reuse the antenna (you may have to remove the plastic adapter and put the one from the aftermarket one on it) . . . it's just stupid that they don't make truly universal units since it's the same protocol on the receiving end.
