Aftermarket H7 bulb doesn't fit well

I wonder if anyone has similar problem with their Mazda5. I'm using a pair of Pilot HID clone D2S bulbs (www.pilothid.com). The base of this D2S bulbs are much thinner than the stock bulbs. So unless you make the base ring thicker, the wire lock would just be very loose.

Does anyone else have similar problem? Or is it just me of not know how to lock the bulbs down?!

And does anyone have an idea to thicken the ring at the base?

Thanks!

H7 halogen has "black" adaptor that helps sits the bulbs right.
(just look at the H7 halogen you took out)

some H7 HID conversion kit don't have this adaptor (mine did not have them ^^)
and you either have to get it or have to play with metal wire to lock the bulbs...

for me i really did not know about this "adapter" till recenly, i somehow "locked" the HID bulbs on h7 housing.without this adapter. (i did that several times)..

Let me see if i could take a pics later tonight..

you're trying to cram HID bulbs into headlights not designed for them, how can you expect them to fit and work right?

I know on the Protege 5, there should be a little black plastic adapter that you slide over the back of the bulb to allow the little metal tab to lock it in place. If it did not come with one, see if you can order some from the guys at Xenon Expert, or PM Protophile to see if he might be able to get ahold of some. I'm not creative enough to even recommend how to do it yourself.

guys guess what, I called Mazda parts dept and asked if there is such an adapter. The fellow nicely told me that I can just use the adapter that came with the stock bulbs, apparently! He said just use a flat screwdriver and carefully pry it off and use it on the new bulb.
If I can find the time, I'll try this today.

here is an update, the stock H7 adapter would not work with my HID bulb because the adapter expects the actual bulb would have a dual prong. So I have to keep looking for one.

PM Protophile or XenonExpert and see if they can't send you out some adapters

okay..

i tried to take a pic to show the way i did it but there isn't much space for my camera to fit lol..

i found this pic from fellow member (The Saint) here and will use his pic to illustrate the way

following pic is showing the adapter to fit the HID bulb..
the way i did was without using adaptor, use the metal wire to lock between two metal poles(circled in RED).. it *locks" HID bulb to H7 housing..

locking happens, as the metal wire goes in between 2 metal poles diagonally(in red circle)..

Thanks dreamym5! That is the same locking mechanism that I have. Oh and I found a way to make my own adapter. I went to Can Tire and found a 1/2" PCV System Grommet that works really well. Al I have to do is shave off a little bit of the hard rubber on one side of the ring to make it look like a H7 fit. The base of my HID bulb fits right in there.
So I guess to other 5 owner, just pick a similar PCV grommet that fits the base of your bulb.

Installing an aftermarket exhaust, installing a custom aftermarket stereo, hell... installing a f*ckin aftermarket TURBO... yep, I think slightly more complicated projects have been completed successfully before. Turn off your self-righteous flame mode for once dude, sheesh!

dreamym5, in that pic you posted, I'm a little confused... The yellow line you drew, are you saying that's the direction your improvised adapter took through the red-circled pins? Also, the metal clip that TheSaint has pictured installed there, is that the "real" adapter and if so where are they obtained from... XenonExpert or similar?

Good to hear you made your own adaptor...(first)

May be you can take a pic of your own adaptor for future installer :)

jandree22,,

The Saint, according to his post, *used* adapter to fit his HID bulbs...

I don't have adapter... i wish i could take a pic to show what i did exactly but don't have much space to do so.

what i was trying to illustrate was...without any adpter, you could still hold your HID bulb into h7 braket by letting metal wire go between 2 metal rods(circled in red).*click* .

i think you got i was trying to illustrate

if you order your HId kit from seller... make sure you ask for an adapter..

hey dreamym5, slightly off topic but I was wondering if you can give me some tips on how to access the trigger wire of the parking light. I need to do a DRL low to high beam mod and I need to tap the parking wire. But the wire is too well hidden so I can't access the wire. I tried going through the mud panel but it has way too many connection points. So I prefer not to take all that off.
Any tips or suggestions? I guess one way is to take out the entire head light unit but I don't know how to do that.

BTW, I've got the 08 Mazda5. I hope is similar to yours.

Thanks!
