i see from reading everyones posts in this topic that "an intake is an intake"... well now what i am wondering is then what is the difference with a $35 dollar Short Ram intake bought off ebay versus an AEM Short Ram intake other than the name....

I purchased one of those ebay intakes for $54 two weeks ago. Took about 2 hours for a good install and a little customizing. It sounds great under load, has a better throttle response, along with looking well in the engine-bay. Mine also came w/two filters which I am not sire if it was supposed to? I have heard great things about this intake and they were all similar to the AEM intake which is almost 3 times as expensive. This is my $.02.

I love my new intake and wish I had it on my old 01' ES2.0

I ask even though i already bought one, but the asshole forgot the piping... its been a month since the auction ended and he still hasn't sent me the damn piping...

That sucks.....i think I benefited when the guy sent me 2 filters. I tell you, you will like the intake when you have it installed. Sucks that you have to wait though. I had to wait an extra week becasue my money order got sent to the wrong PO box. My pay pal account was messed up so i had to send him a money order.

Sorry to hear this but this is a great deal when you get the pipes sent to you. Hope the guy is not giving you a problem.....later.

the only problem u will really run into with the injen is if your car is lowered.. yes lowered meaning the filter is closer to the ground meaning it may be exposed to water.. thats why in cali its injen cai in the summer and injen short ram in the winter.. (i hope i can make that work) John

the guy insisted that the pipes were in the box, i told him that the box was too small and that the pipes could not even fit in the box... he said that was impossible, that the box must have been opened or something (which was NOT the case; you could tell be the packing inside the box plus the tape outside of the box)... he continued to call me a liar and that the pipes were there, he knew that the pipes were there since the box came directly from the manufacturer (lol - thats a great reason to be so confident)... i asked if he even checks the contents before shipping them out, and he said no, they come directly from the manufacturer and he just ships them (thats not real smart)...

he asked me to send the box back to him, he will check it and verify they are missing and then ship it back with everything it is supposed to have... well, i told him i would do that as soon he sends me the $15 for shipping (no reason i should pay for shipping AGAIN since he is the one who ****** up)... he didnt want to, he said he would just send me the missing pipes...

I waited 5 days and then sent him a follow up email asking about getting a tracking number for the pipes, he said he hadn't shipped them yet... I went off about how this is ridiculous; it had been 24 days since the auction ended and he hadn't even sent the stuff out yet! so i informed him that i would be filing a complaint with PayPal unless he starts trying to be productive in getting me my missing items...

he was not productive so i filed the complaint, and then after a day he asked me to cancel the complaint and we would resolve this...

he again asked me to send it back to him; so i pointed out that if i send it back and he verifies that the piping is missing (which he will) i expect to be reimbursted $15 for shipping plus he will need to pay another $15 for shipping the item back to me, which would then be $30 that he would be paying... i asked him if he was prepared to do this, and whether or not he would rather just send me the damn pipes...

he said he would just send the pipes... this was a week ago, and he still hasn't sent them yet...

MPWIRELESS@YAHOO.COM is the biggest jackass retard in the world! don't ever deal with the guy!

That really sucks....i ordered mine from this guy name Jim from L.A. He worked at A.S.M.I. He was nice and easy to get in touch with (cell and egular phone). I'm sorry for your situation and hope everything works out.

For those of you worried about hydrolock and the Injen, just get a bypass valve which can be bought here:
http://www.protege5online.com/For_Sale_Page/Injen_Intakes/injen_intakes.html

I don't have time to look for it right now, but I saw a video of the guy who made these and he emersed his CAI intake in a water bucket with full throttle! and he had a clear intake where you could see the water not going up all the way because of the valve. It was crazy, but hey it looks like it really works.

another argument i want to put up, CARB exemption... it's an intake, HOW can it change the emissions if the MAF is still intact?

Just get a K&N typhoon - you can convert it from CAI to SRI and it had a hydrolock device included.

I think the difference between the ebay and brand name will be the quality of the rubber joins, clamps and fitment. If you are willing to sacrifice thses things, go for the ebay one. If the little differences add up in your mind, go for the brand name.

I went K&N :D

Isn't it almost $400? (blarf)

I don't think anyone's ever hydrolocked their cars yet w/ an injen and an aem intake. I have an AEM and never had any problems w/ snow/ice/rain/water. I know people w/ injen intakes and are lowered and still no problems. The only way to hydrolock the engine is if you completely submerge that filter in a puddle of water. Which is still a foot off the ground. Water spray will not affect your engine as there isn't enough constant flow to lock up the engine. It's not like you're pouring water into the intake when you drive. It's more water spray than anything.

www.protegegarage.com have it for $260 + free shipping :)
they have fast shipment and great price and customer services.
here's the pic

i have the short ram -- the reason why i went with it is because I live in oregon and its always wet here -- so i didnt want to pay extra $$$ for the bypass valve so with that said -- in my case the short was more practical and cost effective :)
