Advice on how to make crazy HP...

Ok. Tonight, I was driving home from hanging out with my friends and this SRT-4 pulls up beside me. I wanted to race him just to see how I would do up against one so I did. Turns out this wasn't an ordinary SRT-4. That thing hauled ass. When I got a chance to talk to the driver, he said that he upgraded to a much bigger turbo than the stock one and drove away. That did it. So now, I want to know what turbo and engine upgrade I should go with to make some crazy HP. Help me out people.

god based on your mods your gonna need alota mods to keep upto a moded srt4..run 10psi, fmic, most def a downpipe..some sort of ems. and the MAM manifold is sick..unless u really have cash then forge the internals, get some injectors and run some hi psi #'s

or u could do that...just buy the shortblock from mental addiction.its only 2800$ then that would be "crazy Hp". once u run 17psi

Ok. But seriously, what turbo setup should I go with? I've been researching the MAM Thumper Kit. I'm thinking about getting that kit. If I were to choose that one, what type of engine and fuel upgrading would I have to do? Seriou replys only, please.

the thumper kit is good. but i would DEF forge the internals before that..i dont see payin 4500$ for a turbo kit if your not gonna do the bottom half of the engine. drop the 1200$ on pistons and rods to start along with some sort of EMS system. you wil be better off that way

I can't spend anything now, I have to do research first. I just want some advice on what to start with first so I can a least make some where near 300hp.

You can always get a sleeper kit! Its designed to make around 350-400hp. That way you get less lag compared to the thumper and you will be able to run it safely on stock internals for the time being until you go forged.

I don't think I should invest in a turbo kit for "time being" purposes. I think its a waste of money. But I will look into the Sleeper kit though. Any other suggestions?

Umm, the Sleeper kit IS a turbo kit.

In order to make large amounts of power, you are going to either have to strengthen the internals of the engine (pricey, but the best path), or try your luck like 505zoom. His engine has held up with stock internals pushing close to 300hp for a while. Of course, his is an ideal situation. He also has forged goodies waiting for when his engine does decide to pop.

I know that the Sleeper Kit is a turbo kit. But is 505zoom boosting with the stick turbo or with another turbo setup?

Some engines just don't have the backbone from the factory like otheres. Dodge made that engine to make shyte-loads of power, well, because they have that "1950-1960's drag racing on Woodward Avenue" mentality. Mazda has more of a "make the car out-handle a Porsche, but get your ass handed to you by a kid in a $18k jellybean" mentality.

Sorry, it didn't seem like you knew that when you wrote:

505 has a GT28RS (Disco Potato) turbo which flows more air at a lower PSI (cooler air). It's probably the best turbo to mate to our engines for street use and still get great power. He also has just about every bolt-on known to the Protege community. Here's his Car Domain site:

Just be prepared to spend some money to make a bunch of power. The best investment you can make if you are going that route is to strengthen the engine. The FS-DE CAN make great power, it just has weak internals.

azian6er was one of the big-power pioneers on the forums. He has gone through just about every combination I can think of, and is currently back to the stock ECU and still making around 300whp. Of course he has bulletproof internals to handle that power.

There haev been a few people that have made large amounts of power on stock internals, bu I can only think of one who hasn't snapped the rods yet (505). I think a lot of that has to do with driving habits, too.
