I have never really purchased a decent system in any of my cars before and was wondering if anyone thought this might be overkill or whatever for my new MS3...

Amp: JBL Grand Touring Series GTO301.1 - amplifier (300 Watts)

Speaker: JBL 12" of the same series.

Fit: A smaller box that won't take up much room in my trunk.

A local place here in Tampa says they can do it for $420 installed.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Someone pointed out that the stock head unit has a replacable amp, should I pump up the power to the stock Bose speakers while I am at it? I want quality over quantity....

TIA.
:p

Hey guys, thanks for the advice and Adam, your setup is a great space saving choice. I am not knocking your decision to do it that way but shouldn't there be a certain amount of volume for the speaker to produce the best results?

How is the sound with it setup that way and do you consider yourself to be an audiophile? I am not but that's because I have never felt the need to pay for a sound system that would make me see the purple haze....there is other stuff for that (beer)

Oh, and thanks for the sub joke, I haven't laughed that hard all year (bird)

How about this one? Gravity, it's such a downer. (boom01) anyone?

not sure if i would consider myself an audiophile. my last car did have 1800 watts though. keep in mind it is a shallow mount sub. needs minimal space to be efficient. the box is plenty big for the sub. i didn't want anything real boomy. i have the gain at just under halfway and it compliments the bose without over powering it. sound quality is perfect for i wanted. i also don't have to worry about the sub and amp being damaged when i have anything in the hatch.
