abs and brake light both on

ok for the last few days both lights come on at the same time. but not all the time. when i turn the car off and restart they go off, and not always come back on. the manual says that something could be wrong and to take it to the dealer. anyone else have this issue before? i would hate to take it to the dealer and nothing really be wrong that i cant fix..(warranty is over)

Yeah, fluid levels. I had the same thing going on. For me, the times the light did come on was when it was colder and I assume because the fluid is a little more condensed when it's cold. Anyway, topped off the fluid and no more light.

Take it to the dealer or shop, sounds like you have more of an issue then just bad pads that is causing your fluid to show low.

when brake fluid is low our cars are designed to disable abs, thus turning the abs light on along with the brake light. it does that so expensive abs components aren't damaged by operating without lubrication. there is only 2 reasons to have low fluid, you have a leak somewhere or your brakes are worn low thus stealing fluid from the reservior (where the sensor is) to fill the calipers. another few reasons that light combo would be on is abs sensor malf, or even a blown or missing abs fuse

my job as a service consultant makes me have this paragraph programmed in my head but i hope it helps :D

ok thankx for the replies. the brakes are worn, so that would make sense. like i said before, they dont always come on. but it does seem like they do it more often when i brake alot and hard. i will put it on the lift tomorrow and see what i can find..

i had abs come on around 120 kmh. They did brake job and wheel bearings, all fixed.Car only had 40000kms.I think i need to cool it on the dukes of hazard stuff. It did go off once you restarted car.

About 2 days ago, I had both the ABS and e-Brake lights come on and they haven't gone off since. Got a 02 P5.

I recently did an entire brake job, including brand new rotors, pads and even rear calipers, since mine were seized. The lights only came on 2 days ago, not when I did my brakes almost 2 months ago. And yes, I bled them too.

I did have a problem with my e-brake though. I could pull it all the way up and nothing would happen to the rear calipers. A week afterwards, it starting working fine. Are our e-brakes self adjusting?

I've checked tire pressure, brake fluid and abs fuse. All seem ok. My question is about brake fluid level. What's "low" for our cars?
I looked and I can say it's not up to the rim, but slightly above that little filter. Is that low?
It's still in the "neck" part of the reservoir, probably double the minimum level.

Looks like I either have a bad sensor or abs module problems.
If it is a sensor, is it warrantied? I'm at 3.5 years and almost 73,000 Kms, but have extended warranty. I'm guessing with my luck that I'll have to pay for it.

I also still have my winter tires on. Maybe weight of those on dry pavement is causing problems? Either way, I'm getting brand new tires installed today.

Any tech help would be appreciated.

Put in a little fluid it has to be arround Full or the light will come on when the fluid sloshes during hard braking and or acceleration, fluid is cheep, if that doesnt work look elsewhere

also if your pads are worn you might of gotten on the brakes hard at high speeds, with DOT3 fluid it might of past its temp level (refill with DOT4)

Thanks Rac3rX, I'll try it out and cross my fingers.
If the fluid makes the lights go away, I then have to find out the WHY!
As for pads, I strongly doubt it, since they are almost brand new.

I just removed the ENITRE abs system from my msp.. the abs light is on, obviously.. but would this contribute to the brake light?
