MSP Spicy Orange
I'm about to buy a MSP, I've been approved for financing and all I have to do is sign the papers, I did a carfax report on the car and found something interesting, the report came up ok, nothing was wrong, but the milage was what interested me. The dealer that is selling the car sais it has 3,7xx miles on it, but in the carfax report it shows something a bit different :

01/31/2003 6 Texas
Motor Vehicle Dept.
Austin, TX
Title #22733737642091330
Title issued
First owner reported
Loan or lien reported

09/23/2003 7,328 Service Plan Co.
Austin, TX
Service Contract Issued

08/24/2004 Mazda Motor of America, Inc. No recalls open for repair

obviously a year ago it was reading 7,328 i searched on the forum and found some info on programs that resets your odometer, any input on what to do? also i added that last bit from 08/24/2004 it sais no recalls open for repair, this must mean it got flashed? any help/advise would be appreciated

Thanks,
Neil

I would bring it to the dealers attnetion and see what they say. If they say its wrong bring it up with car fax until you get some better documentation as to where the different mileage numbers come from.

Good luck,

if they replaced the speedo cluster it will read the miles from the car it was taken from, or if it was new it would read from 0 unless the dealer installed it and corrected the reading on the computer.

There was a reconstructed MP3 that sold on eBay twice a few weeks ago with chrome p5 wheels on it. I went and test drove it andit was fine, but Carfax showed it in California a year ago with almost 10,000 miles more than it showed now. so I passed.

Thanks for all of your help, I contacted the original dealer, the dealer selling it to me, and the original owner, it seemed to be a mistake by the dealer doing the warrenty work on it, I'm stoked though, it only has 3,700 miles and I got it for less than 14k (nana)

good to see that everything worked out. On a similar note, i have a 94 ford ranger that was my first vehicle. when i bought it it had 75k miles on it back in like 98 or so. Well we have to have our emissions tested yearly on our birthday and back in 94 some vehicles didnt have the 6th digit for the hundred thousand mile mark. so if you had like 115000 miles it would read 15000. So i took it to have it inspected and the goober lips that did the inspection the year before put in the right mileage (like 125000), then the next year they put it in as only having 32000 because of the lack of the 100k thing. So when i came across a free carfax i decided to run one on the truck just for s**** and giggles, well it came back with a damn warning of possible fraud because the odo could have possibly been rolled back. I was like bs, then i started thinking and was like oh s***, those dumbasses. But anyways, good deal on the speed, i suppose it is spicy orange?

How much were they originally asking for it? I cant seem to find it on Autotrader, but am intrested how much you got them to lower their price. A car i'm looking at has 11,XXX miles and they want 17,995!!! WAY TO HIGH. They want me to make an offer and I dont know what to offer.

I purchased mine with 17500 miles for $16000 from an individual. I was looking for a long time and most seem to be around $17000. I was too late on one very close to me with under 7000 miles for around $16700. I found one in Killeen, TX (did not actually see) with 15000 miles for $15500 if I remember correctly. I unintentionally told the salesman that I had my own financing and never heard from them again. I would offer $16000 even and maybe you could meet in the mid 16's. Good luck.
