About to buy, some quick questions

2003 P5
Ok, I've already been preapproved for a loan and just waiting to get the paperwork, so some last minute questions.

There are two P5's local that I'm looking at, kinda torn right now. One has 12k miles, cloth interior and is listed at 13,998. The other has 34k miles, leather interior and listed at 13,310. There both blue, 2003 models, 5spd and appear to have the same options. How hard would it be to convert the cloth interior to leather? Is 20k miles really something to worry about? Also, I did some research and couldn't find a definitive answer, is keyless entry a standard option on P5's?

Any issues I should be sure to look for when I look and test drive? Thanks and looking forward to becoming a P5 owner, such an awesome car. :)

Kevin

Those prices are really horrible. My 2002 P5 with 15,000 miles i bought a year ago I got for $10,900. 5spd, sunroof, white...

Did you purchase from a dealer or private party?
All the private party ones I see locally all have a lot of miles on them.

leather is nice but its really just a personal feeling... id rather have less mileage and buy leather seat kit if need be. Keyless entry is standard and welcome.

I bought it from a dealer, GMC ParkPlace in San Antonio. 3.6% interest too. (smoke)

Yeah, you should be able to knock 2-3 G's easily off the sticker, imo.

Tell them you really like it but you can only afford a $10,000 car. That's what I did, it worked!!!one11!!!!

I would go for the lower mileage as well.

Man, wish I could find one for that price..haha..the only P5's I've seen even close to that price usually have nearly 100k miles. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place or something.

SenorCorwin,
That's definitely the way I've been leaning.

Now I've just gotta figure out if I could be paying too much..haha

The one with lower miles you had listed is only worth about 11. Talk them down, let them know you'll sign for it THAT DAY if they go to 11k. If not, oh well, there are plenty more P5's around.

Well, I'll certainly try that at one of the places, but the other place is CarMax with their No-Haggle pricing and crap.

I know a P5 is an impressive vehicle when first test-driven. I couldn't let go of the car after I sat in it. So try to keep a cool head (hitit)

On the other hand, if you really like it, I wouldn't sweat over a few hundred bucks.

we are selling a loaded (six disc, leather, moonroof) protege5 with 18k miles for 13900. so for them to sell a cloth interior, higher mileage car for that price is a little steep to me.

rule of thumb in my experience is that used car markup is about 3000 to 4000 bucks

Who is we? Where is this P5? :)

man, you aren't joking about what you have to choose from! i just did a quick search on autotrader.com to see what all is available in nashville, and it does stink...

i got my 2002.5 p5 at a major dealership in atlanta in 2003 for $13000, and it only had 4500 miles on it. (of course mine was sport shift or whatever the hell you want to call it and cloth seats, but geez!)

maybe check atl for p5s? I'm not sure how far it is from nashville to atlanta, but maybe going out of state could save you some cash

oh and if i had the option, i'd get leather, but that's just me. i didn't think i cared but going from a car w/leather to one w/cloth is not my cup of tea. that, and cloth is just harder to clean, imo (vacuuming, etc...our seats attract dirt in the strangest, hardest to reach places)

When I was looking for a P5 I test drove one with leather (leatheret?) and it was pretty crappy, but maybe the leather in the US is better? You sit in the seat and all I did was slide around on every corner. The cloth in mine is a lot better. Thats my thought about it.
