About the new TSB, Mazda doesn't HAVE to replace the fuel pump

I thought I would post this as there seems to be some confusion, where people are taking their car in expecting a new fuel pump but only get the reflash and told "if you still have the problem bring it back".

If you read the TSB carefully (and it is worded in a really funky way... I didn't catch it myself the first time), this is exactly what they are supposed to do.

Quote:
"Step 3: For vehicles built before April 7, 2007 that are experiencing the conditions as noted in this service bulletin (rough idle, hesitation when cold etc.), AFTER THE PCM CALIBRATION UPDATE, check to see if the fuel pump has been replaced previously and if not, replace the fuel pump" (paraphrased the stuff after the all-caps part so I didn't have to type all three paragraphs).

so, just letting you guys know, they aren't supposed to replace the pump right off the bat.... they will do the reflash first and then if you still have problems they replace the pump.

Just wanted to clear up any confusion.

*shrug* I saw some posts in other threads where people were complaining that they didn't get a new pump... no biggie just wanted to make sure

The way I read that it means after doing he reflash to check and see if the pump has been replaced, and if not, replace the fuel pump my build date is prior to April of 2007. I dont see where you think it says "Only after doing the reflash if problem persists replace pump". That seems to be the way YOU are reading it.

It says if the problem occurs after doing the reflash, then check the pump to see if it needs replaced.

"For vehicles built before April 7, 2007 that are experiencing the conditions as noted in this service bulletin after the PCM calibration update, perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System and inspect Warranty Claim Inquiry Detail for high-pressure fuel pump replacement.
• If no prior history of replacement, replace the high-pressure fuel pump. Refer to MS3 online instructions
or Workshop Manual section 01-14 FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION."

My speed dealer said they are just ordering the pump and will call me when it comes in without looking at my car.I did get the reflash from my local dealer that is not a speed dealer last week tho.

See if someone had pointed that part out LOL

for what its worth, I got the reflash today and was very nicely surprised... the throttle response seems much better and smoother.

Car pulled noticeably harder as well, though this always happens initially after a reflash/reset as the boost is higher until the PCM relearns the boost curve. saddens me that that part may go away...

even off boost though the car just felt better and the throttle response amazed me.

How long did it take them to do the reflash?

I just contacted my dealer today about it and I'm not too sure if they were aware of the problem, I'm still waiting to hear back about taking my car in.

I'm excited for the car to pull harder, not so excited that they are having fuel pump issues already.

Just got mine done but no fuel pump. "Try it out first" , supposed to warm up here this week so kinda getting screwed.
