A simple YAY or NAY?

NAY.

No subwoofer should need 1600 watts.

I could get the same quality from a 300 watt sub. If if SPL is what you're after, I could pump that 1600 watts into 4 subs and end up with a better system.

It is not worth the strain on your electrical system, the cost of a 1600 watt amp, and the cost of that sub IMHO.

unless you're a competitor lots of bass is pointless. it just proves you're a jackass who doesn't realize he's pissing everyone off with his excessive bass.

I was messing around the Kenwood USA site looking at their new products. I've never really liked any thing Kenwood as done, but I thought it would be really clean if I kept it all Kenwood in my MSP. I might go back to my original plan I had with my P5; all Alpine all the time.

All I listen to is bass tracks, duh.

A Single brand system sounds good on paper but very few brands can pull off quality products for every component.

Its like shopping at a department store. Sure you can go to Sears and get your oil changed, pick up some clothes, a shower curtain and a nice necklace for your wife/gf. But most of us would rather go to the dealership for the oil change, a clothing store for our clothes, Bed & Bath for the shower curtain, and a nice jewelry store for a necklace.

Alpine, however is like the dream store...they do a great job with everything. Kenwood on the other hand, I don't know what they're good at anymore. I've got an older home audio setup from them that is about 7 years old...still sounds great, but I wouldn't buy their car audio gear.

Other than Alpine, the only other brand I would go all out with is Eclipse. THeir amps arent great but everything else is top notch. If JL Audio made nice head units I would add them to the list...but they don't...and shouldn't...they are doing fine w/o them. You could use them in a 2-brand setup and get an Alpine/Eclipse/Clarion/Nakamichi headunit.

That's kindof what I was looking at before, everything I saw from Alpine was super nice, but I don't really want to get a new head unit (any time soon) cause the stock Kenwood does everything I want it to, I was just looking for something a little bit nicer. After I am done saving up to buy a life, I'll look into more Alpine products.

I can't agree with Eclipse's amps not being great...I have quite possibly the best budget 4-channel amplifier on the market. I love it...for the money, I seriously don't think it can be beat. I'd definitly take their subs over Alpines as well. Their HU are nice, but I like Alpines styling (or lack there of!) better. Components and Coaxs, though it's pretty tight between the two. Both are very high quality...

BTW...Nay on the kenwood.

I wouldn't exactly call Eclipse "budget". For simplistic head-unit styling, try Nakamichi (sp.?). I was never a fan of the older Alpine look but I've been out of the market for a while. I don't like the flashy crap everyone is selling now. That goes for home electronics as well. WHen will the "silver" look die off cause I'd really like a nice black HD TV.
