A Question About Power Handling

I am looking to install new speakers into my car, along with a 4-channel amp. I was looking around and my two personal favorites are Alpine and Infinity. The Alpines though, have lower power handling (rms) and also have a lower sensitivity rating compared to the infinities. Btw I am looking at the Type-R's compared to the KAPPA's. Does this mean that I will be able to get better sound out of the Infinity's or are the figures even related to SQ. Secondly, I was thinking about putting two sets of component speakers in my car. One in the front (stock location) and on in the back. I think this would make the sound alot better, tell me what you think. Also any amp suggestions would be nice.

Puttiign components in the back of a P5 is a waste. Don't bother with your back speakers too much, nothing more than fill coming from back there.

Another concern I have, that maybe you could help me with, is if I should go for the Infinity Reference 5x7 component, or either the type r 5 1/4" or the KAPPA 5 1/4" (both component). I would really appreciate the help, also since I am in college and do not have much cash, would these speakers be able to run off of the head unit until I can get an amp, they have a sensitivity of 87 (alpine), 92 (reference) and 90 (KAPPA, also infinity). Thanks alot for the help.

POwer handling ratings and effiecency rating are totaly useless specs in regards to sound quality.
Buy what sounds the best to you, plain and simple!

The Type R Alpines are best used with an amp and really should have one. Just so you know I have more then doubled there power ratings and they love it. Not really a good choice of speaker unless you have a nice amp.

I would personaly stay away from the Typr R's unless they will be powered by an amp from the start. You may want to consider the Type S speakers instead. they can still handle an amp.

Your amp choice will eventualy depend on your budget. Theres a large world of difference between a Alpine MRP-F240 - $200 and a JL 300/4 - $500 :D

Pick speakers that you like the sound of the best. Don't go for the top of the line stuff becuase it will not achieve the volume you want them to without an amp and may even be damaged when you try to make them. Aviod components in the rear as it is pointless and anoying.

Thanks alot. I have chosen to get the Infinity Reference 5x7 component in the front, reference 6.5 in the back, power the front by an Alpine T220 2 channel amp (50x2 RMS), and then bridge my stock HU to power the back speakers, my MP5 came w/ a factory sub, so that'll have to do till I can afford one. How does this sound for a start? And for a small budget ;)

If I cannot bridge the stock hu, then do you think that the rears will be getting enough power? Ssince they aren't as important, does it really make that big of a difference in the end if they are amped or not. If so, then I will just save a little more and buy a 4 channel. Thanks alot, and sorry for being so dumb about car audio.

Kepp what you got just power the rears normally and fade to the front 2 or 3, it will be fine.

Thanks alot for all of your help. Does 181.14 shipped sound like a good price for the Reference 5x7 components and the reference 6.5 coaxials? I am ready to order if u say so.

No clue, I don't much care for infinity products so I am hardly up to date on there prices, sorry. Just hit Circuitcity .com and see how much off your getting. Keep in mind the place you are buying them from may not actualy be authorized to sell them hence no warrenty is given with your purchase.
