i have a few questions i noticed alot of people have there airfilters coming right off the maf. mine goes into the fender(injen) do you think it would be better if i moved it to right after the maf? also i need an engine managment system what would you recomend...please include links

To answer your question, there's a slight ammount of heat-soak involved in having the air filter inside the engine bay. To be honest, and without turning this into a CAI vs. SRI thread, it's all speculation/theory-- Short Rams (which is essentially what you'd be making by moving the air filter inside the engine bay) seem to yield identical results as CAI's. There's likely more to do with variability of results by means of proper sealage at each junction, airflow path, and tubing diamter than there is to do with the placement of the filter 6 inches into the fenderwell vs. inside the engine bay. A short ram will however, not ever suck water up into the intake tract. The same cannot be said definitively for a CAI.

To answer your other question, you shouldn't install the filter directly after the MAF-- you need some piping between the MAF and the filter. As far as engine management is concerned, I would go the route of supporting mods first before you delve into the realm of engine management. However, there are a number of engine management systems for the MSP, including MPI, Microtech, Split Second (Ken at Protege Garage is actually running a Group Buy on those right now), and Unichip. i think the ideal intake setup would be to have an engine management that uses a map sensor so the maf is eliminated altogether and just put the iat sensor in the IC to TB pipe. The maf must be a pretty big restriction. Then I doubt there would be very little difference in sri vs cai.

unless you do this then the +/- of cai and sri have alot to do with modifying the maf and iat readings being altered, not just the larger intake piping.
