A couple stupid questions

Well I have been reading the site for about two weeks now and I have two questions. I hear everyone talking about trip computers giving them MPG nubers. Where the hell is the trip computer? It doesn't seem to be the stereo display and the odometer also doesn't appear to provide this info either. I just bought the car a week ago and am still learning stuff about it. LOL Took me a day to find the AUX jack for my iPOD. LOL.

Also I hear people talking about their build numbers for the car. Where is that located at? I see the build date, well not the whole date it just says 04/07.

Before someone says RTM, (although reading the manual is a good thing) the trip computer is a feature in the GT trim of the Mazdaspeed 3. I believe the regular Mazda 3s have them, too, in certain trims; moreover, even if you don't have it, I am told that you can unlock that feature.

The trip computer is basically a digital read out that tells you the average mpg, avg. mph, miles to go 'til empty, and the real-time fuel mileage. You can toggle it by pressing the "info" button, and it will cycle through the information mentioned above each time you press it. Pressing it and holding it in avg. mph and mpg mode resets the computer.

I think you can get the build number only by contacting MazdaUSA directly. Congrats on the car purchase and enjoy! *^_^*

My Sport s model didn't have the trip computer but I unlocked it using the above thread. I think it's absurd that the trip computer is already in the computer and the dealer or factory just unlocks it if that car has it as an option.

That is true! Now I'm kind of pissed! Why hold it back if the option is in the car anyway? Only reason I can think of is to help sell the higher models.


P.S. I got the trip computer unlocked on both of my cars! Thanks guys! The wife has an 06 3i, have the 07 Speed3. Easiest mod I have ever done. I just walked out to my garage in my underwear with the keys 2 minutes later done. LOL
