A couple more questions (i'm done now i swear)

Ok. I've got it all mapped out.. I've got all the panels off.. I've got all the stuff I need I think.. I've got my box built (still gotta paint)..

My last problem (I hope)

I need to install the crossovers for my tweeters. Any ideas on where to put them? I know they need to go in the doors..but I can't seem to see a good spot.. am I missing something? (I have a Protege5)

Also, where in the wiring do I put them? I would think they would go into the wiring before the speakers so that they can split the signal into the tweeter/speaker.. but since I'm running my amp speaker outputs to go into the facotry wiring..how would I do that? Just cut the factory wire and put it in place??

Also, I need a spot for my tweeters, any ideas? They don't fit into the stock tweeter location I don't think.. (too big)

I do apologize for this.. I never really thought about this seemingly small part of the install.

A MASSIVE THANKS to EVERYBODY who has helped me in this. This is my first car install.. but I'm learning TONS. I hope to one day be able to pass this information along to other annoying car audio newbs like myself, with the accuracy and kindness that I've recieved here and on other boards such as this.

Thanks guys,
Kyle

ps.. I'll take as many pictures as I can of this install for reference when others ask these questions. The first thing I'm doing is getting pics of the HU clips.. to me, those are a pain in the *** to get out if you don't know what they look like.

I have seen them installed in the doors flush mounted. I am not positive, but hihoslva may have his done that way. Otherwise, I have seen them done in the corner of the windows where stock ones are, kickpanels (which are pricey), and even in the center of the midrange like a 2way speaker with a built in tweeter. Have you checked out sites like www.sounddomain.com and clicked under memberpages. You can query all years or just the year your car is to narrow down results. Wires and crossovers can be in the door or tucked under the dash or behind trim panels depending on the size. Mine are under the seat because I have kick panels and had other s*** under the seat alongside of crossovers before removing some faulty components under seat.

there is a small pocket in the back lower part of the door. the door panel has a foam insert that fits in the pocket just remove the foam and put your xover in the pocket.

ok thanks for the ideas.

But, if I mount in the door, how does the wiring work? Would I have to reroute the factory wire into the crossover, then run wires out to the speakers, and up to the tweeter (decided to use it to replace the stock.. figured how to make it fit in the stock location)

Thanks again for the help.. if all goes well I can finish this today!

Kyle

I used the factory wiring, so I ran the amp spk wire up the dash, and connected it to the appropriate wires on my wiring warness (the one you buy to adapt to the factory plugs) Dont cut the factory wires, its just trouble.

For the other end, I just used the spade style slip-on connectors to connect to the factory plug in the door. For my components, I ran this wire to Xover, then the spk wires back to the speakers. Use a cable tie to keep em secure.

I mounted my tweets flush in the door, just above the factory 5x7. I have a "02, so no fact tweet. It was really simple to do. Just make sure you use a hole saw! Using a knife you'd be likely to f^%K up the hole and make your door look like hell.

There is some foam on the back side of the door, but I was loathe to remove it. I have side impact bags, and the sensor was on the door side of that. Plus i figured it was there for a reason, so I didn't want to cause a rattle if I can help it. I ended up mounting it in the map holder in the door. Just drilled a couple small holes to feed wire thru. This way I can adjust it w/o removing door. I saw a pic where somone had wounted on the door itself ( above and to the rear of the foam spot) , but mine xover was huge, and would not fit there.
