when i turn my ac on to fan speed 2 or 3 the ac light goes off. and when i turn it to 1 it runs fine. and 4 does the same but it goes off and on?

anyone know why?

and i have a squeeking sound that the belt makes when i start my car and when i give it gas it squeeks faster and louder? whats that all about. i know it has something to do with my belt. but what?

thanks.

i have a similar problem...

the leftmost dial, and the ac button wont light up sometimes when i turn the lights on. however, if you move the center dial to 0. sometimes the lights will kick on. i assume the bulbs are going bad.

can this be replaced easily? dont mean to thread jack, but the problems are similar. i want to keep the same light color... but something brighter would be nice...

it must be a protege thing... i've already had to replace my climate control twice, and i've only had the car for about a year... mine was doing the same thing- the ac button would flash and turn on and off, which was making the fan turn on and off... than my ac would turn muggy... but yeah, it must be a short of some kind. like i said, i've had it replaced twice...

my #2 goes off once in awhile, but remember there was thread about this problem and it might be the metal connectors aint tight enough. I ended doing that, but it happened again and i just put the switch between #1 and #2 for it to work.

RaiderH8r89 did you have to pay or did Mazda cover it to fix the climate controls?

There are a million threads on this. The search button works wonders. That being said, the link that bazooka joe supplied above fixed this problem for me immediately. Haven't had an issue with it since I did the mod.

I had the same problem when I had my P5.
I took it to the dealer and they put in a whole new
unit. Then I had to take it back cause the morons
didn't notice that it had the green back lights instead
of red ... master techs my @zz!

On my P5 AC positions 3 (and to a lesser extent 2) do not work after the car has been parked in the sun on a hot day. Specifically, the fan blows but the AC light goes out or never lights up at all, and the air which comes out is not cold. Positions 1 and 4 still work normally under these conditions. If the car has not been "preheated" all four modes work. That is, the AC works beautifully except for when it is most needed! The fix described in the link did not resolve this temperature dependent failure mode. What does help is to park in the shade or drive on the freeway for half an hour, either of which will cool things off under the hood and then positions 2 and 3 will work again.
