Vivid Yellow Mp3
Got back my car from the Mazda Dealership and I told them that the A/C wasnt working. It just died out on me awhile back. Got it back and they said it was the hi-pressure hose, or something like that. I was wondering if anyone has fixed the hi-p hose on the Mp3 before, or would it be eaiser if i took it to a shop to have them fix it. Thanks.

i had the same problem. a couple of people have baby pin holes in the ac high hose. i just bought a used hose from a board member n swaped it out with the new one. n vacumed it out n put new freeon in there n it worked. could be colder though. did they say exactly what was wrong with the high hose.

thats what mazda said when i had some other minor repairs. he quoted me somewhere along the lines of 400 dollars for labor and parts. I was thinking how hard can the hi-pressure hose be. right?

How much did you spend on it total. The high pre-hose, the vacuum of the freeon. I was thinking would it just be easier and save my self the hassle and go get it fixed or do it myself. thanks

well, the hard part is finding a high pressure hose... took me about 10 months... but 6 of those are winter, so i didnt really try. i spent 30 or 40 for the hose (used). 20-30 dallors on freeon. vacum i did myself. i have a small vacum box thing. but u can take it to a shop should b like 20 dallors? not sure though. its not that hard to do urself. just swap out the hose, just 2 bolts.... n take it the shop and ask them to recharge it for u. that should b like 50 dallors or so.

well i guess the question is now....

where is the hose in the car....and where can i find a hose, used perferabbly <--spelling sucks i know. and how much do you think a new hose would cost?

have a pic of the engine bay? it would be easier to show u that way, but ill try to explain where. its the front hose next to the radiator. it has a green... i think green... cap that has the letter "H" on there. thats the high hose. it goes from the compressor to the condensor. theres a couple of venders that supply mazda parts. ask them how much they will charge u... i think one is captain n another new one. dont know his account. or u can try online junkyards etc, ebay sometimes. i got mine from the forum from a totaled p5. i think 2nd gens work as well. my sis 2000es looks exactly alike. ask for the part number on them before tring it though.

sorry if its to small, its close to the radiator bracket thing on the passenger side. thats the high side. make sure its completely decompressed before u do anything, it might explode in ur face lol. just take a flat head screw driver n press it on the LOW side of the ac, close to the passenger side strut tower, teal cap, open it n it looks like a tire valve stem. press it like u would on the tire stem, should let out the rest. be cafeful n make sure u have towels around the low side area, cause if theres anything left in there it will spray all over. post if u have any more questions.

cool thanks that helps alot.

ok out of curiosity. mazda did say that it was the high pressure hose. what if he just wants me to pay the extra 490 to get it fixed. how can i tell if the high pressure hose is really the problem?

or would there be any harm in trying to take it apart and putting on a new hose?

so far you have been alot of help!! thanks alot!

n/p anything for a fellow mp3er lol. well, when mine went, i still had freon in the ac, so it pretty much all dripped out onto the high hose lol. mine was soaked with it. IF mazda used a leak check (usually some kind of dye that they put in the ac unit to check for leaks) u can use a black light to see if u see any of that dye pn the high hose. u can also buy that dye at walmart or any auto store usually. but i think u need to have the ac unit to run it through the whole system before anything. make sure u read the directions on how to use that. i havnt used it in a while, so i dont want to tell you wrong. but just dont try to run the ac with no freon, u might burn out the compressor. u can just take out the high hose AS LONG AS THERES NO FREON LEFT IN THE AC!!! make sure of that first, cause its really pressurized inside n might shoot at ur or something when u take it off lol. but anyway if it does leak, i doubt it will have any pressure left in there. n ya, i would recommend that u do it, save urself alot of money. if u buy a used hose it should cost like 100-150 at most. i did mine i think for.... 60 or 70 including freon, did the vacum myself though. u can just take urs to a auto repair place for them to recharge your unit for like 50 dallors usually. that way will be much easier. just make sure u replace the hose yourself. unless you have a vacum.

just take a flat head screw driver n press it on the LOW side of the ac, close to the passenger side strut tower, teal cap, open it n it looks like a tire valve stem. press it like u would on the tire stem, should let out the rest. be cafeful n make sure u have towels around the low side area, cause if theres anything left in there it will spray all over.

lol sorry for posting so messy -_-

np, tell me how cold urs is. make sure they vacum it really good. i didnt vacum all the air out of my system i guess, now it doesnt get colder than 70... soo gay. blah goin to redo it all probaly.
