A/C on when in Auto Temp control

It was explained to me that he AUTO function controls the humidity when it is activated and uses the A/C to do this. So I should not be surprised to see the A/C light on while I am in AUTO mode. However, I have had the car for 3 weeks now, and I have never seen the A/C light off while I'm in auto mode. I'm in Minneapolis, so humid weather is not really an issue right now. I keep turning AUTO off because I'm assuming that having the A/C constantly on is killing my gas mileage. I checked the manual, and the way they describe the AUTO system, I would think that the A/C would go on/off periodically, as needed. Anyone else seen this?

Thanks,

Dan

The A/C light will stay on when in auto mode. That doesn't mean the A/c compressor is running, however. This has been true of every auto a/c system I've ever used.
