'97 Miata P0300 Code - random misfire HELP!

Hello, new to this forum. I have a check engine light and had Auto Zone retrieve a Code P0300 - random misfire. The plugs and wires are brand new and still getting the light. New O2 sensors as well. Should I replace the cam angle sensor or is it more likely the coil or something else? Any guesses or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I've actually been doing a lot of searching specifically for the '97. The 99 and 00 cars aparently have a coil pack problem that commonly causes this misfire code, LOTS of references to this. I also found a reference to TSBs for the ECU (high rpm light tripper) and a cam angle sensor (low rpm light tripper) problem but can't find the actual TSBs that describe the issues, these are supposed to be for the '97 specifically. So, I was wondering what advice I could get here. Unfortunately both the coil pack and the CAS are fairly expensive and I'm not really excited about buying both/either of them. Either should be easy to install though.

A friend of mine was chasing a mis-fire code on his 97 for awhile. Turns out it was a fuel pressure regulator... Not sure if it was the code, but they replaced all the ignition stuff too before figuring it out.

Also check for air leaks around the intake manifold gasket. sometimes a leak will give you a random missfire.

just talked to our master tech he said lots o stuff. Said it could be many things, intake leak, fuel related, ignition, etc. said it could be a complicated diag.

I had a 97 mazda miata,i was keep getting random misfire code po300,but car was runing great,i got it fixed by adjusting the throttle position sensor on throtle body, u have to adjust the sensor a few times ,until u get it right,in another words,getting the ratio between the air and fuel right.i hope this information can help some one.thanks Abby
