93 Octane Fuel

Hey all. I finally take delivery of my new MS6 tomorrow night at 5:00. Needless to say, I'm pretty damn excited! Once question I've been meaning to ask you all is regarding the fuel. I keep reading that 93 is the only fuel to be putting in the car. The only place I can get 93 octane around here is at Mohawk. I have no problem putting it in, but it's an ethanol blend fuel and I'm wondering if that would create any problems. I've just heard that using an ethanol blend fuel on a car that isn't specifically made for it might lead to problems over time. I don't have anything to back that up, just something I heard or read somewhere, I can't remember for sure.

So, do I go with the 93 octane Ethanol blend fuel, or the 91 octane standard "premium" gas I can find anywhere else?

Thanks

weve got 10% ethenol here in RI and its on 93.. every gas station has it, ive yet to see one that doesnt.. i only use v-power from shell and nothing else and to this date havent had one issue with the car

I always put the Husky/Mohawk Ethanol Blend in my MS6, no problems as of yet.

And the highest shell v-power I can find is only 91 octane, BOO!

I did manage to find 94 at a local husky tho.

Ya the Mohawk (ethanol) gas is actually 94 not 93, I was just referring to the general discussion on the boards. But they are the only ones that have it. Esso used to provide 92 octane, but now everyone just carries 91. Be it Shell, Esso, or Petro Can.

So I won't be hurting the car by using the 94 ethanol? Or should I stick with the 91?

Funny you mention that. I always wanted to try out 1/4 tank of the high octane stuff when I was racing my GTP, I just never had the balls to do so. Was afraid my 250K couldn't handle it. Might have to try it out next summer in the new car.

P.S. Only 9 hours till I pick up my car... Giggity giggity!

I wish most places here had 93, 92 goes in my car most of the time just because I dont want to drive halfway across the city to get 93/94.

Almost every car made since the mid-80's is designed to handle up to 20% ethanol fuel. The older cars had issues with the ethanol degrading the rubber in hoses and seals.

I run both Esso 91 and Husky 92 without issues... the higher 93-94 octane fuels will let you extract the most *safe* horsepower out of the car, especially when its really hot outside, but otherwise there's no harm in running 91-92.

Octane ratings are all about knock control, so as long as you're running 91 or better in a forced induction car, the knock sensor and ECU work together to keep you out of trouble when you punch it. The higher the octane rating, the harder you can push the engine without pulling timing (up to a point).
