hey, i recently bought a 88 626 with the 2.2na motor, so far i have installed a cone filter and moded the exhaust a little "installed a cherrybomb".

i am going to repipe the exhaust form the cat back, possibly from the head back "make me some custom headers" to 2.25" and probably 1.75" primaries.

anyways, i am full on in to rallying and i am looking for advice from others like me, i know i need new tires and breaks, hell probably even a turbo motor

does n e one know what parts are interchangible so i can get better offroad performance?

thanks

re rally

you dont really need a turbo or anything. if you were to get a turbo it would put you into a higher class with other cars putting out twice the horsepower with all wheel drive. i have an 81 celica that i rally on the west coast and the motor is bone stock(rebuild of corse), full cage, seats, and gauges. the thing is weaker than other cars in my class but there extra ponies make it harder to drive. my advise would be to keep the motor closer to stock(maybe a cam, and exhaust) and put the money into the suspension and tires. if you have a car with low horsepower but great suspension you will kick other cars with more ponies asses
p.s. dont be cheap when it comes to safety equipment look to spend 4-5k on cage seats belts race suit and helmut

Focus your modifications on strengthening, reliability and handling...
If in search of the first three, a mod happens to make power, then fine. Like strengthening the exhaust to be able to take a hit, you use larger piping.
But chasing after power is a waste of time, money and energy.

Look where any mod will put you in terms of class. An AWD conversion would be nice but if you're completely outgunned by your new classification, it's really selfdefeating.

i thought about a AWD converson and the car looks like it would accept the 323 rear end and the f>r drive shft but i dont know the exact suspension of the 323 in comparison to the 626

as for safety i was already considering 5pt harness and full undercarrage skid plate

this car is a daily driver so it cant really remain non op for too long of a period
