6 speed transmission

anyone heard of a protege 5 ... 6 speed manual???
Our transmission suck for 2 things
1st: when your in 5th and you wanna slam it in 4th...you hit the /$%$ reverse
or its the reverse that is too near the 4th or the 4th that is uncentered or something...anyway on any other car ive owned (including a 92 protege) it never did that.

2nd: revving at 3500 rpm at 120 km/h (or 75 mph(im a $%&? canadian french from Quebec)) its not a good thing, even worse when, like me, you do 70 km
(50 miles) everday on the highway while any other car ive had, all manual transmissions too, revved at 3000 rpm at 120km/h (75 mph)

So here's the point....is there something to do to reduce the speed of the 5th gear....OR getting a 6 speed transmission and have the 6th running at 3000 rpm at 120 km/h or lower?

yes ive seen this on an other post...but mostly what i wanna know is...can we put a 6 speed transmission in our cars? and if its possible..which transmission is better

Mazdaspeed 6 speed? awd
which other mazda have a 6 speed?

i think you'd have a hell of a time getting any of those tranny's to work with the protege. there's NO way you'll get a RWD tranny to work, unless you convert the whole car to RWD. but, that = $$$$$$$$$$$$$. you're best option is a gear swap.

Why stop at the Mazdaspeed 6 six speed transmission?

Get the whole motor (but in this case, get the Mazdaspeed3 version, because it's FWD.) It'd be easier slotting the whole motor/transmission package in the car than trying to fabricate a backplate and adapter for the six speed to the FSDE. More cost effective, too... slow motor + six speed still equals a slow car.

buying new costs the same as my car and buying used..there are no mazdspeed 3 wrecked here

Did you notice a big difference in the RPMs or is it exactly as they stated?
Have you been monitering your mileage? If so, how much better is it?

Turbo or non? Ive always wanted a clean turbo 944.. I dont care if they are 20+ yrs old, they still look good as hell when they have nice wheels and nice paint..

I recall a couple members messing around with this option (MAM being one) - none successfully have it in and working to my knowledge. IMO your best bet is to hunt down some GTX 2nd and 3rd gears, (bonus points for the NSN 5th gear) have the whole shabang cryo treated and run Redline shock-proof.

Just get a ford probe 5th gear. I put one in my p5!

Took maybe 20 min and did not require droping the tranny or ANY mounts.

My 5th gear revs drop about 500 rpm and did make a difference in gas millage on the highway.



Hell i may even have one to see you if i looked hard enuf.
