Alright, so I got my new eD component sent yesterday, and seeingas I was previously lazy had to makeup some trim rings fast. Grabbed a couple pics of the process. A note about the speakers, they're something similar to a CDT HD setup with a differnet cone and magnet, a satnet 560xover and 25mm silk tweet.

This is how oversized 6's fit in a 6x8 hole... I made some really cheap and ugly 1/2" mdf baffles. A very important part of these isthat you drill a screw-hole and then drill with a larger one sothat the scrwes will sit flush or below the surface and not get in the way of the speakers. mounting. One thing to note isthat to the sides you cannot go beyond stock speaker dimensions. Up and down there's headroom, but to the sides there's a clip on one, and the front of the doorpocket on the other. In my initial pics I'd left the "corner" on thinking it wouldn't matter, but it did, and I ended up having to chop it. Also note the stock rainguards are retained over the back fo the speakers.

I've included a pic of the cutting of the splash-ring on the back of the doorpanel beacuse I always seem to have problems describing it to ppl.

As for the tweeters and xovers. I'm currently playing with tweeter positioning. Sofar they'r emounted in my kicks. I've since relocated them to sitting on the floor pointing in and back, My crossovers at the moment are just sitting right next to my amp underseat. If I can do it without picking up noise from the fusebox, I may incorporate them into the kickpanels I'm planning to make.

is that first pic with them installed? you cant even tell theres a real speaker lurking behind there=). apart from the tweeter and the wire. definately gotta fix that=), but as long as it works for now, thats all that matters. hey, did you ever finish up your fiberglass boxes either?

Yup installed. and tucked away... as for the tweeter, I'm currently moving it around and trying to see where I want it to end up. I'm possibly gonna make a fiberglass pod for it, trying to decide if I wanna do full kicsk for the speakers as well. and of cours eI might just wind up selling this set and going for some 3-ways in which case I'll only need to glassup a 4" kick which would be much easier. Them speakers are big.

My sub enclosure is still not complete. It works and I'm lazy. However it will hopefully be soon. I'm gonna be taking apart my hatch to sounddeaden it shortly at which time I'll have the box out and be able to actually work onit. Speaking of the box, I'm kinda hoping I can somewhat mimic it's shape with the kicks, but we'll see.

oh, yes, and after a bit of listening, my verdict on the eDi's isthat they are pretty nice. I'd compare them to a JL VR off the bat, Very smooth and flat, but perhaps toomuch so. I've heared from many sources that the mids will warmup as they break in, hopefulyl this is the case, but overall they're a very nice speaker (especially for the $) And I LOVE the tweeter, infact I wish the xover could be tinkered with to allow it to play lower because they seem to really like the lower range of what they are allowed to play.

Setup-wise, I've got them running off my bridged tsunami 4440 with the gains down a good bit (I metered output at about 120w) HP crossovered at 64hz from my deck, and I may even drop that down a bit lower, the midbass responce is quite nice. I've never had an oversized 6 before, they do hang with the lows quite nicely. (having deadened doors helps I'm sure)

edit: THese speakers BLEW the day after this post was made, and furthermore elemental denied my warranty prettymuch jsut claiming I'm an ignorant moron totally setting the facts aside, and producing picures of my "blown" coils that in no way resembled what they were caliming was the problem. do NOT buy these speakers as they are of questionable build quality and furthermore, their customer service is horrible at best.

yea, i absolutely loved the 6.5s that came in my old chevette. they were awesome, but i have no idea what brand/model they were. but they definately sounded great. too bad i gave the car (and the stereo) away for free. shouldve kept at least the speakers...but oh well.

THese are a 6-3/4. I'd had a couple 6.5's with my old honda, granted I wasn't running this kind of power, butyes. I'm impressed.

I just installed a pair of CDT CL-61A's on my P5, hooked up to my stock head unit, and I like the sound a lot. Could use a lot more power though. Somehow I don't think my CDTs would handle as much as you have running to your's (140 w).. I was thinking of buying a cheap Pioneer amp that puts out 50w RMS x2 at 4 ohms to power my front speakers, think that'll be enough?

The amp is going in whenever I get an aftermarket head unit by the way. I like the stock head unit, but it's just not cutting it.

Hey Proseur, did you have to trim any part of actual oval door opening to make the back of the mid driver fit?

How much of the "splash ring" of the door panel did u trim off?? Did u just trim the bottom part?

How do the EDs sound Poseur? I would want to part out just because of the crap they put you through. Did you cut the grills out of the door panels?

I cut NO METAL at all. INfact you could likely fit the magnets form 8's in the stock hole in this manner. any speaker is essentialyl a "cone" shape of sorts...

trimmed the entire ring off of the door panel, I suppose I could have left the sides if I wanted, but don't let the spash guard or whatever name fool you it's really not doing alot. Though you will rattle your doorpanels with them trimmed, so I recommend some form of tall weatherstripping aroudn the speaker hole to "seal" the speaker face to your doorpanel. this won't let the sound bounce all around between your door and your doorpanel.

The speakers sounded alright. Honestly I wasn't exactly pleased with the mids, they were sorta flat and just, I dunno plain. I've heard CDT's need some breakin to sound right so I was waiting for that to come around, but I guess it never really did. If I were to compare them to anything I'd say JL vr, but not as nice. The tweeter's better for sure, but the midbass's a bit lacking. (oddly that would be the only eD part of the set) This could be because I'm pretty sure I had bum drivers, but we may never know. They didn't feel like giving me the oppertunity, and I don't feel like paying to give them an oppertunity at redemption. I've heard CDT's and they are pretty decent. Again, nothing standout spectacular, just a nice mellow flat-sounding speaker setup.

Nowthen, my current setup (still sorta half-assed) where I used my leftover parts (basically the CDT stuff. 25mm silk tweet and 560 crossover) with dual 4" Vifa 8ohm HT mids in each kick and a 7" vifa midbass (eventually) in each door. THIS setup sounds good. The detail is absolutely stunning. Hard for me to really compare of judge it seeingas my kicks aren't done and glassed in yet, but wow... I think if I do it again, I'll just go with normal single 4's or atleast something shallower.

As for grilles. nope haven't cut them out, but I'm kindof pondering doingso. I don't know that it'd really benefit me much only running a midbass in the doors, but were I running midrange, something where more detail is necessary, I might be tempted. as-is I'm only playing 200-60hz to my doors. The 4's takeover form there, then I have the CDT passive crossover seperating them and the tweeter in the 5" setting. (the crossover has a 5 and a 6" setting)
