505 Intake Manifold COMPLETED!

thanks for the detailed update 505 - real excited about the intake mani as it will complete my build. still not totally sure how my perrin (terbow) set up will mate to the TB. The perrin CP all ready has a 90 to the TB. My assumption is that a portion will have to be cut to mate to the 45 coupler. over thinking this? regardless i'll be able figure a way to make the cp work. just trying to play it out in my mind because I have nothing better to do then think about how my set up with work.

If you already have a 90* coupler there, you probably won't have to cut the pipe at all. Just slap a 45* on it and it should mate right up.

Looks great! Looks as it will sit right in between the bars of my CP Raacig STB so looks to be no problem there. I'm with n2ka about the pipes though. I'm going to be hacking my cold pipe to pieces so getting this to fit really isn't that big of a concern...

Yeah after seeing how it fits in there, I don't think there are any STB's that will cause any issues.

5" plenum is way too large for this car and the power needs of most of its owners.

The runners are as long as they can be. Any longer and the whole thing is thrown out of whack.

If you think there are no velocity stacks, you obviously haven't been watching this thread for very long, and didn't even read the first post.

Touche!

Is there any merit in 2 45 deg bends flowing better?
I imagine that a 45 deg turn before the TB plate is less disruptive than a 90 deg turn, no?

ok cool.. just givin you some thought. thats nice that you have in corparate.. all that.. sounds good.. i dont have a msp any more but i do remembre the tight space.. all i remember reading was thoughts on it.. and i gave you my thoughts.. thats the mani to my drag toyota.. if i could only find a pic of a 2.0 turbo from p.r. you will see 5inch plenum longer runners.4 1000cc inj. <but i guess your right he puts down big numbers in a street car.. good luck with it.. sky's the limit..

congrats! any chance of getting a picture with the valve cover off, to see the individual runners?

Sorry I missed this earlier.

Probably not a huge difference either way, but it certainly won't hurt! :)

That is just tits.....

You ned to get these done...I even got the GF to approv on this Mod...She never likes anything..but she thinks the Mani is cool (2thumbs)

LOL my g/f thinks the exact opposite but she usually hates anything I buy/do for this car anyway. Well, as long as I keep spending money on her she doesn't complain too much...

Still can't wait for this... When do you think you are going to start collecting deposits?

when the prototype is tested on sanders car and we have the results

lol, she got a sister? (naughty)

I'll take deposits ASAP... just need to make sure this thing performs as well as it looks before taking anyone's money. The last thing I want is to make any revisions after taking deposits and have it take longer between the time that you guys pay and the time that you receive your piece.

I just want it to go as fast as possible once everyone pays, that way you guys will get them quickly after putting down your deposits. :)

thanks for the pics! it looks even better when you can see the whole thing!

Why thank ya kind sir. I agree with you, and it's amazing that there is finally something that makes our underhood actually look better with that cover off, haha.

go with a 5 inch plenum.. and make it round.. better cfm.. and your runners are to short.. also inigrate velocity stacks into it..for better flow.. like this...

That looks very nice piece, do you have that in your protege ??? or was it made for some other car ??

This is a fine example imo

I've seen one like this in a supra engine swap into IS250, veryyy nice !!!!

Looks like its for an oldschool corolla either a 4AGE or 3TC?

but that design is perfect , in any aspect of the design .

If 5" is too big then 4" would be perfect for our "little" engine.

The "square/rectangular" shape makes me think twice about the performance it will deliver.

I mean it will probably better then stocker and at higher psi might do even better.

^^^ It really depends on the application. I've actually seen more rectangular sheet metal intake manifolds than I have cylindrical. Used to have a guy here at school that had a 240SX with a similar looking intake manifold (rectangular) but it was no where near as well designed as this one. I'm pretty sure the flow analysis 505zoom has done speaks for itself. I am curious what kind of program and/or software was used. I've taken a lot of fluid flow courses and it's always interesting to see an actual application.

Ok got some bad news last night, and then some good news today. Kelly got another huge project at work and has to have 200 small discs machined this week, and even more of them for next week. So that was setting us back 2 more weeks before even getting the revised mockup done for test fitting. Not good.

So I was calling around today and coming up empty on having someone else make the revisions for me, and decided to see if Kelly could have someone else there at the shop fold up the new plenum top. He talked to Wes, and he is going to hook me up. He even had a couple of cool ideas to make it even cleaner than I was thinking, and it is going to look totally bitchin' now.

After this is test-fit to make sure everything will fit without interference, I will scan all the dimensions and send them back to Cliff for another round of flow modeling. I have already made the adjustments to get the volume back into the ideal range, but I want to make sure that the 45* entry will not cause any turbulance issues. From what I have seen in the EVO world, it will not, but I will still double check to make sure.

So here is a quick crude drawing I did that shows the evolution of the plenum top (didn't want to scan my good one because it has all the dimensions on it... sorry but no free design help will be posted publicly ;)).

Top is the original basic design, middle is what the mockup looked like with the wrong 30* angle at the end, and the bottom is how it will look now with the 45* TB entry and proper angle on the end cap and top taper.

I am totally digging the look of the revised shape, but am still open to feedback from you guys. Questions or comments?

I think over all it looks great. weve talked about this neumorous times and i think it just keeps getting better and better as it comes along. This latest revision looks alot better then your mock up piece did IMO. I think that some of the ppl that were wanting something more visually appealing will be happy with this revision of the manifold. Being as i can picture this in my head and it looks to be alot more aesthetically pleasing then just a box no offense. All in all i think this is going to turn out to be a great Mr.Petty production lol. Come on fuckers comment like your really interested in this thing haha.
