$500 to spend, what to do?

So I've got right at $500 to drop into my car. Car has 31k miles on it right now, I am still under warranty and actually purchased an extended warranty as I'm gonna be paying on the car for a number of years.

Here is my plans for now. Just do the simple upgrades and minor ext mods. I don't really plan to mod the car too heavy for the time being.

Thoughts:

AWR Rear motor mount and Forge bpv to start.. This replaces mazdas lack luster performance that they sent from factory. From PG.com I can get these for $237.

Leaves me $263.

I plan to do the hdp lip and get some new hids which is about another $75.

Leaves me $188.

So what should I do with that? I was thinking the SRI but I'd like to just save up and get the SRI and TIP together in PG's deal.

Sorry for the long post but does that sound like a good start?

close to 400 miles with the protegegarage.com sri and inlet and still love it. i wanna say for 15 extra Ken would upgrade to a larger filter too for the speed6.

So, I thought about this. Here's what I'd spend the money on:

-AWR rear mount ($70)
-Cobb SRI ($185)
-PG turbo inlet ($100)
-TWM Stage 2 shifter w/ bushings ($190)

This total is $545, but I'm sure if you shop around or purchase it all at the same time, you could probably knock 10% off that and get it under your $500 budget mark.

This will give you a nicer feeling driving every day, and add some noticeable power to the car as well. I would skip the BPV right now, only until you can datalog and see if in fact you're not holding boost correctly. Also, you could swap the shifter & bushings for a test pipe ($120) instead if you want to save some cash.

How come the Stage 2 shifter Steve? Is it better than the Stage 1 or just personal preference?

Stage 1 is a shortened throw, Stage 2 is shorter throw + shorter height. I'm a fan of the improvement of the shorter shifter over stock. I've driven MS6s with both versions installed and prefer the S2 myself.

interesting thanks. Sorry for hijacking the thread but, does the Factory shift knob and boot fit on the TWM kits?

Springs! You can get the Megans for the v6 (that work well on the speed) for $100 shipped if you look.

I have to disagree on this. There's a lot of talk about what 'works' with the MS6 with springs, and there are only a few options. There was another thread where someone put improper springs on their car and in the process, defeated the suspension and reduced its travel without improving its damping ability by having a higher spring rate.

To get proper springs for the MS6, you're gonna spend at least $200 on a set.

ok, and no CEL's with the TIP and SRI?

No, I'm running the MS CAI and Cobb TIP without any CELs. Make sure all your connections are tight when you install it and you should be fine.

Not trying to threadjack, just going to put my opinion in about the Stage1 versus Stage2 shifters.

I went with Stage1 because I'm pretty short (5'7") and my arms are short (I'm happy to be proportionate). I drove my MS6 for a couple of months on the stock one and felt very comfortable with the height. I feel that due to the angle I have to shift from being the height that I am, that the center console storage area gets in the way for me.

It may or may not pertain to you, but I thought I would throw that out there for your consideration.

I have to back up Steve on the spring comment. I have driven a speed6 with less expensive springs that "work" and they leave much to be desired. You really do get what you pay for (in most cases) when you spend a little more for the right springs. I opted to spend a little more and went with the H&R springs. The difference is night and day and I love what they have done for the handling. Having springs that are actually designed with speed6 in mind makes all the difference in the world.

I've just ordered the following for my 07 Speed6:
AWR Rear Mount
Cobb TIP
TWM Stage 1 SS
Injen CAI

And I'm stoked to get these parts on and running

No shifter bushings? If you're going to be putting in the short throw shifter, you might as well replace those bushings while you have everything apart.

Ken mentioned a deal for the PG SRI and TIP for $200, sub that in for the CObb SRI and you're at $460 with a few bucks to spare.

Edit:
Referenceto $200 for PG TIP and SRI
