4th to 5th gear shifts.

I was just wondering if it is normal but when speed shifting(or high rpm) from 4th to 5th is like the gate is blocked however when i do it slower it gets in fine. I was just wondering does it lock out when at high rpm or close to redline. My other MT cars never felt this way! It feels like i have to take it slow when shifting to 4th to 5th which can be hard when the adrenaline surges through my veins.

yea 2-3 is gee..i need to get the rear mount which apparently solves that problem

funny 2-3 is the best spot for me. I wish my sp3 felt like my spec v gearbox; the spec v felt so nice and you can feel it going into gear...more direct feel! and spec guys always complain about their gearbox they should try the sp3!

I don't have that kind of problem from 4->5... but i do seem to from 5->6. I havent been able to figure out it is just me not being used to a 6speed tranny, or if something weird is going on.

My prob has 2-3 three times, all while trying to stupidly show off, (karma).
I want to do the mount solution but I'm afraid of warranty issues.

i had this same problem, and the reason for it (for me, anyways) was that the springs in the shift box had not been worked in yet. i highly recommend just working the shifts from 4->5 and 4->6 over and over again while parked somewhere. don't try to push it diagonally at first...just go with 90 degree movements to get the springs used to giving that much. it took me just a few minutes of working it in to get a much smoother shift.

Just to clarify, the mount does not solve this problem as I have missed 3 once in a while. Although it does not happen as much as it did before, but it does still happen.

I'm going to guess that the problem lies in our cable shifting design. Chances are they are just slightly off alignment sometimes. It happens to me too, but not nearly as much as before the engine fell out. The dealer, when they repaired the engine and all that, also calibrated and aligned the shifting cables. Maybe someone with a shop manual can find information on how to align??

Aluminum shifter bushings and a rear motor mount help but I still miss 3 sometimes.Like fourthmeal said,Most of the problem is in the shifter cable design.I agree...

^^^ what he said. i got the motor mount inserts and bushings and it helped a lot...also either it's 'broken in' more now or I'm just getting better but shifts seem easier now than when the car was new and i had those mods

I have the same problem too. It doesn't matter if I do it slow, fast, warmed up or cold. It just feels like it's resisting when I try to shift from 5th to 6th.

4 to 5th locks me out too, along with a nasty grind if forced. I noticed that when shifting from 4 to 5, the tach actually jumps up a couple hundred rpms as soon as i pop it out of 4th and my foot is completely off the gas. It does not do this in any other gear. I did many shifts from 4th to 5th to see if it was me causing the tach to jump, but it does it on its own only when moving the shifter out of 4th gear.
To get it into 5th smoothly I have to wait a second and watch for the tach to start to drop before moving the shifter into 5th.

iv noticed my tack jump when i first got my car when shifting out of gear no throtle i thought it might be a rpm match for downshifting i dont notice it much nowdays. it could also be the syncros they dont like being over 6 grand so try to shift before that if not doing soo alredy

mm.. i don't notice it in 4th to fifth.. I think 2-3 locks me out sometimes, but that's most likely from me being too fast and and not depressing the clutch all the way before i flick it out of 2nd..

try double clutch upshifting.. strange, but does make shifts smoother. depending on how good at it you are, it might not be as fast.
