4500k HID/Yellow Fog Light Bulbs

those are really blue for 4500

it's the camera's auto whitebalance making it look blue

Shoot, i can get my 4300k to look super deep blue by messing with the settings.

Camera pics aren't always that great at showing color temps

yah, these pics were all taken with the iPhone's built in camera, so it's not the greatest. When I first turn them on they have a blue tint to them for about 2-4 sec until they are warmed up and then they are white with a slight blue tint.

disclaimer:
when I ordered this kit from ddmtuning, I paid for a 35w regular sized ballast kit and I received a slim ballast kit. All the inner box had was a sticker for H7 and 4500k, so it's possible I received a 55w slim kit or a 35w slim kit. Either way, it took a while to get the kit (about a month) so I didn't wanna have to deal with returning/exchanging them.

for a while, DDM was sending every one slim ballasts. Same thing happened with my kit

55w would have toasted your fuse pretty quickly. ;)

DDM's policy is that if they dont have the full size, instead of making you wait, you get the upgrade to slim at no charge.

So, can anyone get me up to speed as to why this mod needs to be done? Just brighter lights? Is that it?

I had hella H7's on my first gen Miata years ago and loved them. If I could get the equivalent in the MS3, I'd be in heaven (I have profound problems seeing at night).

Thanks for not flaming the noob...

Daniel

By removing the attenuator from the light, you allow about 60% more light to hit the reflector, resulting in a wider, brighter beam. Its definitely noticeable when the fogs are aimed properly (i.e. about half of your lowbeam headlight distance).

Why Mazda decided to put those in there is beyond me....

Any idea what wattage the stock HID's are? I may be interested in getting some matching fogs.

I was going to go with the 35w's if I did this, I was talking more about the bulbs. Are they around 4-5000k? I just want the fogs to match the stock HID's color wise.

It's gonna get above freezing this weekend, so I hope to give the car a proper wash and get some new pics up, including of the lights with a real camera. =D

if you've tried this did you attempt to look straight at your car at night with one off and the other on, just to compare? that little tab is pretty odd. but it's nothing like those eclipses that look like the headlights are holding a giant contact lens in front of the bulb

I did the DS tab a while ago when I installed the HID's, I was running low on time that day so I only got the one done (I dropped it inside the housing, so I had to work to get it out)

I was driving behind my wife last week (she was dropping off her car @ bodyshop) and she told me that my DS fog was WAY brighter than the PS one.

I compared mine to another local when I still had the stock 9005 bulbs in. Head on there was little to no difference. The depth of the fixture itself and the height from the ground makes it more or less impossible for it to present a significant amount of glare unless you aimed them straight up.

I will say that in getting the tab out, I removed the foglight bulb from the bumper and didn't realign it until when I put the yellow bulb in and it was wayyyyyy off (alignment wise) before, aimed too high.

not MS3 related, but, i bent the tab up in teh stock Pro5 foglights, and, hoonstly, performed WAY better without blinding everyone still

Some better pics (not with a cell camera) of the 4500k HID's and yellow foglight bulbs with the tabs removed.

WOW that makes me think twice about the 4500K hid. I got the 8000K and its very similar looking in the blue/factor as yours, but certainly doesn't light up the road as bright as yours.

I also have the 3000K luminics yellow bulbs and they are bright but also not as bright as yours, this makes me want to try to take that ring out from inside of the light! I hope it isn't too hard to do that

yup, I got the 4500k cuz I got HID for being able to see the road, not for the bling factor. they light up nicely!

The ring isn't terrible to remove. Roll the tab in on itself and then bend up/down until it breaks and then pull them out. Make sure they are rolled small enough to pull out easily. . .I made this mistake on my fist one and ended up dropping it in the housing, had to remove it from the bumper to get it out. 2nd time was easier.

I want to take mine out and see if it makes it brighter, I heard that if you upgrade to the HID kit for 3000K in the fogs you need to remove that metal ring. I'm not sure it will make that much difference tho, this is mine with the ring still inside, it seems to light up the light anyways i believe:
