LOL...I cleaned out my trunk and took out about 70 pounds of junk and put it in my basement.

Car weighs ~3000 pounds with me, and the 'necessary' junk in it

70 lbs / 3000 lbs = 0.02333 = 2.3333% weight loss = 2.3333% more HP

170 HP * 0.02333 = 3.966HP

Woohoo! 4 HP gain for free!

I hear ya Jersey, in my SHO it worked out to 16lbs=1hp. For every 16lbs you drop you gain 1hp. My buddy gutted his car to the sheetmetal. All motor on street tires ran a 13.8s in the quarter. He had an exhaust and a good clutch. My car with full interior and a 75hp shot ran a mid-13 in the quarter. I'm wondering how fast it would be if I gutted it!

uh...dude...no.

GVW is not not what the car weighsm but what it can carry! The P5's are like 2800lbs and the sedans are right at 2990lbs. I'll get exact numbers and post those...BRB.

haha yeah our cars don't weigh more than 3k, my car weighs a lot less than 2800 with me in it.

120lb difference in the two...not bad! however the MSP has a 40hp advantage!
most of the weight is in the audio equipment and the turbo system.

An n/a pr5 with the same horsepower as the MSP, would kill the MSP. Mainly because replacing the exhaust manifold alone with an 11 lb header would net 11whp and drop 38lbs of weight. That and n/a power has a better torque curve

Does Matty even have a turbo anymore?

yea my tvs and all the extra fabric and the 100lbs of audio eq def slow me down as well, i think he has an msp now.

so what would be the better way to go, turbo or na for a dx protege sedan? i was thinking i want to go nuts and slap some turbo action on my base model sedan but i think i need a little more input on the matter. thanx in advance

That's me! well except for the horsepower part. But I did drop a tone of weight be taking that exhaust system out and I lowered underhood temps a ton so that would improve hp loss due to heat soak.

P5-5spd weight is 2716lbs.
MSP-5spd weight is 2843lbs.
is that the weight it says on the door or is that real weight? on the door it says dry weight. fluids (mostly gas since you have the most of that compared to other fluids) and all that fun stuff will make a noticable increase in weight

who cares what dry weight is?? Both cars have the same gas tanks and hold the same amount of fluids.

What "heavy stock parts" did you dump? and how did Melicha lower under hood temps? Don't say you removed the weatherstripping from the back of the hood. That does nothing.

Uh yeah I gotta agree with Turbo Matty P. My P5 was in the mid 2800's with me, 1/4 tank o' gas, and my subs and such.
