2000 mazda protege....we have a bit of work to do here
now as the subject 'hints'....where oh where do i put all this s***? so far we've come up w/ a custom box that will basically comprise three separate connecting boxes(1 dual box against the back seat & two single boxes in each corner) it kills the trunk and then the amps bolt unto the back seat.......ANYONE KNOW A BETTER WAY???.....looking for new ideas...pleez pleez pleez

what 12's? unless you get crazy with the fiberglass, there isn't any easy way to fit it all in, take it from someone who put three 15's in his trunk, and currently has an 18;)

Anything you want to do is totally up to you and I'm not gonna bash anyone for anything because everyones opinions on things are different, but in my opinion anything more than 2 12's is pretty much overkill. In a scenerio where they're all perfectly powered and layed out with the correct amount of airspace.. can't you only gain an additional 3 dB per sub? I would suggest getting 2 top of the line subs and 1 top notch amp. If you really want to do the 4 sub thing... you're gonna have to take out your spare. Then make a fiberglass box.. if you look, you'll notice that there's a thing that sticks up where the bolt goes into that holds the spare. Basically you want to use that point as the center of your sub layout. By doing that.. you can put the 4 subs all firing straight up, layed out in a square and using the wheel well as part of the airspace. Because of that stupid hump thing in the well.. you're gonna need to build a fake floor that goes to at least an inch or two below the lip of your trunk. Then you can put the amps on each side of your trunk on an angle or something.. on the left wall and right wall. Dunno.... good luck with whatever you decide to do.

every time you double the displacement (doubling the subs and amps) you gain 6 dB's, in theory. the first time you double, you gain a little over that, and it gets less each time. if you were to keep the wattage the same but double the subs, then you'd only get a 3 dB gain. i would agree to use just 1 or 2 really good subs, but if the products are already purchased, and can't be exchanged, a solution to the question is needed;) i'm thinking all 4 firing straight up would be the best solution.

yeh dude.. cuz unless you plan on cutting out that hump in the wheel well and welding a flat plate down there.. you're pretty limited on the space that you have. That hump really sucks. And I wouldn't suggest cutting it out.. because underneath that.. I believe is that thing that helps get air into your car in case you roll your car it prevents the windows from like shattering all over you.. and also if you submerge your car.. you can get out easier. ( I don't really know wtf I'm talking about.. but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with air getting into the car for stuff like that (safety thing))

naw, the air vent is in the driver's side rear quater panel;) it makes an aweful noise and causes rear bumper rattle with really loud systems. under the hump in the spare tire area is something, but i don't know what.

Down fire the 12's and mount the amps to the topof the box for display.

you cant cut out that hump , look under it, u have emissions s*** under there, charcol canister and s***..

4 12 s will fit a friend of minie did it with a 01 protege all wood no fiber glass mounted the boxes to the rear deck 2 down fire to towards the back but he couldnt fit s*** in there after that

a few months before i worked at tweeter, they did a black P5 with 4 15's in it..it was pretty sick..then again..you have a sedan..

aigfht guys......i'm hearing you loud and clear..........last night we fitted the four 500w 12' pioneers in two boxes we'd made for other cars (just portable general boxes, but made to factory specs) then hooked them up to a 1000w rms MTX amp. stacked them up in the xtra cab of a ford ranger (yes, very tight fit)....ANYWAYZ, they kicked ass and basically rattled teh fuk out of everything....BUT, we had to admit that two heavier 12' jl audio's were capable of doin the same thing with half the space.....so like i said, i hear u guys loud and clear.....think i'll simply get rid of these speakers adn upgrade..we'll see.....THANX FOR ALL THE ADVIDCE GUYS!.....

YO SP33D.....TIGHT ****** RIDE!

Sure, what do you need to know?

Basicly you fire the subs downward at the floor so you build a box on stilts of sorts. All you have to do is be sure the opeing vending the bass into the car is more then 1/2 the surface area of the subs. So if you are using 4 12's that are 82 square inches of surface area each then you need an open area or basicly a vent 160+ square inches. So you will need a box about 40"x27x8" internally that is raised 4 inches off the floor and is 40 inches wide. Any smaller and you it starts to become a bandpass box or even more complex, a boundry loaded box.

Unfortunitly your sub box will friggen HUGE! The good thing is that acousticly the sub bass will be allfrom the same plain so there is tipicly less cancelation although this is not always the case.

The other idea Is to make a huge Fiberglass box with a sub in the 4 corners of the trunks so to speak. Aim them all at angles ans that might get you enough space to mount some amps in between. Surface area is the easy part, its finding the 5 cubic feet of airspace that can susk

im sorry but im not really understanding the concept here. are you going for the look of it, the sound, or just bragging rights that you have 4 12's in your trunk?

aight 1sty....this idea sounds good, but me figures i'll stick to one duo box in the middle w/ single enclosures in each corner.....atleast that way i get to keep my spare accessible eventho each speaker gets their requisite 1.5 cu ft.........will make an amp rack in the middle on top of the spare hatch......will put it on hinges so it can be opened easily. thanx for the feedback

the look - ummm, yeah, i like a clean custom look...i liek teh challenge of a new custom install.........but that's not a real reason, not much ppl will get to see it

the sound - hell yes....i like it loud, i like it clean, i'm past the nose itching base...giv me more

braggin rights - not really....lol, my budget ani't big enuff to brag!.. (loser)

i'm an audiofile...don't get me wrong, i love speed too, but let's face it there are a lot faster things out there than a mazda protege...and living in central america, pimpin the sounds is a lot easier....

that can all be achieved with a single 12(glare) believe me, my single brahma 10 outhit 3 pioneer IMPP 12's(thumb)
