$3500 MSP Performance Challenge

$ 45 Autometer Ultralight boost gauge - Absolute need
$ 75 Gauge Pod - Somewhere to put it
$ 45 Joe P XZ MBC - Now we can up the pressure to 9
$ 25 Colder plugs
$ 180 Mazdaspeed Intake Cam - Another 12 hp on a NA so lets say 16 hp
$ 60 JoeP FCD - Don't want to run out of fuel
$ 199 Underdrive pulleys - 10 hp... thank you
$ 100 SS brake lines - For me this is all the suspension/brakes really need.
$ 750 Pistons - Gotta stop it blowing up
$ 750 Rods - If they don't break they stay in the engine not my lap
$ 100 Head studs
$ 975 ION FMIC - Now we can go to 14 or maybe more
$ 219 HKS SSQV BOV - Nice sound... bye bye surge
-----
$3523

To make it perfect add
Catback exhaust - It's about time to advertise a bit and we'll need the flow
Spool Computer - Help the power and fuel economy
9 lb flywheel - Another ~ 10 hp and better response.
R compounds - Lets race.

For the price I couldn't see enough benefit in an exhaust (or CF hood) before any of the rest, but yes, I agree it 's a strange list without it. Each of the items adds definite gains as you go through the list.

Hey What's Up??

Well as for a budget of $3500, not including labor, I must admit this scenerio is similar to mine. So I will just list the mods on my 2003.5 titanium MSP to represent my search of more SPEED. I'm out of NJ and get my work done through a shop called TunerM.

But as of Dec. 8, 2003 I will have:

Custom Fabricated 3" T304 SS Exhaust:
- $285 exhaust tubing from the flex flange back was for material only(i.e. straight, mandrel 90 bends and reducer to go from stock to 3" tubing. Since I did not want to change the down pipe now due to a potential turbo upgrade in the near future.
- $220 HKS Universal HI-Power Muffler

In Engine Intercooling
- $700 Aquamist 2d Water Injection Kit (reminder tuning and install is very expensive BUT WELL WORTH IT)

Intake
- $244 Injen CAI (already on this project....cool)

Boost Controller/Engine Management
- $510.00 Greddy Profec e-01 BC
- $299.00 Greddy Profec e-manage
- $33.44 Greddy Optional Ignition Harness
- $120.00 Greddy Profec e-manage support tool

Gauges(I went high end)
- $187.20 Greddy Elect. Peak/Hold Silver E.G.T
- $180.00 Greddy Elect. Peak/Hold Silver Boost
- $212.40 Greddy Elect. Peak/Hold Silver Fuel Press.

Therefore the parts total is approx. $2992.00 a FMIC would be nice but the Auqamist kit will do an exception job cooling the engine down. It can be saved for a future mod along with the brakes.

I had my 03.5 MSP dyno'd w/. for baseline runs and boosted runs
it ran a strong 182.5 WHP AND 182 LB-FT TORQUE@ 9psi
With the new mods coming this week we anticipate approximately
anywhere from 240-265 WHP @15-18psi. That's if the pistons and rods can handle it. This roughly equates to 320 BHP at the flywheel assuming a 20% loss due to the tranny.

yeah, if anyone is wondering....I am a civil engineer by trade.

peace out.

:D

DAMN. Where is this shop? I've been looking for a tuning shop around Woodbridge (I'm from there too) with no luck. I can install simple stuff myself like boost controllers and intakes, but don't feel comfortable enough doing the serious stuff.

BTW the rods will definitely NOT handle that power...225WHP seems to be about the max safe level. Don't know about the pistons, but I doubt it.

Yeah,
The shop is located on 100 Main St. South Amboy, NJ 08879. The owner is Mitch. Just go and check it out. When you get there, just let them know that Julio Vega recommended you. They where originally out of Queens, NY and moved to Metuchen, NJ before they moved to South Amboy.

I hear ya about the rods and pistons but with the water injection, should be able to allow us to push the tolerance of the internals. The water injection will keep the temp. of the engine at a constant . This should allow us to turn up the boost. In thermodynamics.....temp. and pressure are directly proportional. So in theory we should be able to increase boost while holding temp. Eventually, the internals will reach their yeilding point, but I am hoping this isn't as early as 225 whp but closer to 260 whp. This would be pretty phat to get that much power out of stock internals. I know some cars that are getting close to 400 whp with stock internals. But at some time the internals can be swapped.

Where in Woodbridge are you out of?? Were you on the road at about 8:30 pm on 11-27-03?? I was on the road heading toward chain o hills road and low and behold a titanium gray MSP was in front of me with tinted windows and straight pipe??( or some kind of exhaust??) I rolled up hard but was on my way somewhere.

Later,

Julio

Julio,

Thanks for the info...I'll have to check them out.

No, it wasn't me that you saw...my exhaust is stock and the windows are untinted.

I'm in Woodbridge proper, a few blocks from the white church on Rahway Ave.

i justed wanted to see how many times I can get my name on the forum page at the same time

...moron..

Anywho..Julio I would LOVE to come check out the speed...Im down in Toms River but I wouldn't mind the drive to see a hot car..
