ok. my car is bone stock. i was thinking of either getting the mazdaspeed CAI or getting the awr or street unit motor mount and shifter bushings and some other small stuff. right now i'm really leaning towards the mazdaspeed CAI. what do you guys think? is there anything else to consider?

Do both, theres a sticky somewhere about putting in some silicone for 20$ into your mounts and shifter bushings.

Get the CAI..
what is up with your signature? You seem confused.

haha. no. its my favorite artist, David Bazan. you should check out his music sometime. he's kind of responding to some crap reviews from pitchfork about his music.

My vote is for the CAI. Since the other things are cheaper, they will be easier to afford in the future.

ur opinion is wrong in this case. do a search for cai on the ms3 and look at the HP gains...

def go with the cai

What jbiird said X 10. Boosted03MSP, sure as most boosters would think, open that exhaust up right, well the MS3 is not receiving minimal or average gains on the CAI, it's receiving the WOW factor. Tell me how or with what product you can gain an average of 25HP and 25ft/lbs of torque for $300 that's dyno proven. The interesting thing is, as of now a turbo back exhaust is not yeilding what we all thought it would and a catback is almost a waist of money. The MS3 has a very restrictive air box and the OEM exhaust (catback) dyno'd against others, is holding its own; great design.

*EDIT* Also, this is all non-tuned. Now later on down the road when allot more dyno proven products hit the street then maybe the exhaust will help out, but for now and in my opinion, a grand can certainly be spent elsewhere. Lastly, Corksport has a turboback coming that will be interesting to see what they gain and with what complimenting parts. It's like those that are buying the Turbo XS Race Pipe. It claims 22HP and 30+ft/lbs of torque, BUT that's with a CAI and Bypass Valve. Umm, for me personally I see a loss of power. Actually there is another post where someone is removing there Turbo XS Race Pipe and going back OEM because he feels like the car hasn't changed if not got worse.

First thing I went with was Intake, and I never regretted it, even if it didn't give your car loads of hp and tq for an intake, it sounds awesome too :)

I'm in a similar situation. I just got the car, and I'm planning out my next move. I'll probably go the motor mount & tint route for now - only because of all the horror stories that have been posted. A CAI would be next on the list though.

Personally I would leave the motor mount alone if you think it will fail and watch for the symptoms of this happening. If you replace it and it fails then you are pretty screwed. I know it sucks to think it could be a problem but I wouldnt mess with something like that to where you are voiding all warranties messing with such an important part.

Could you imagine paying 8k because they threw it back your way after having messed with the intergrity of the entire engine?

The motor mount replacement from SU or AWR or even the inserts are made for the rear tranny mount, that IS NOT the mount that is prone to breaking... If you read all the articles from people who have gone through the painful day that the motor mount breaks, it is the drivers side engine mount, NOT the rear mount. If anything, reducing the engine movement MAY help prevent the other motor mount from failing.

what was the other thing that was breaking? i saw some thread where something near the rear axle was so loose you could screw it off by hand or something like that... they should come out with a stiffy for our cars.

That was my rear sway bar bolt/nut.

I took the damn thing off by hand but I put it back on with some red locktite and a ratchet. I went to the dealer for a look over and everything was fine since I cought it early on and the nut had not backed out far enough to allow the bolt to get cock eyed and bend anything.

ok yeah, thats probably it. i saw another post though where the bolt completely snapped off i think. i'll have to give that a look. are there any symptoms to look out for?

It dont matter..If you break the driver side mount and the dealer noticed that you changed the rear mount they can blame the problem on that and void the warranty. That is what whitey4311 is talking about Im sure.

Upgrade the audio :)

I got the ms cai my first week with my ms3 and I love it more every day.

You would be safe going either way really with your first mod. (rei)
