3.5 VIN fishieness?

2003.5 MSP
Got my new Blazing Yellow 3.5 MSP a couple of weeks back & I've noticed a couple of oddities since getting it home.

First - when I went to plug in the VIN number on the MazdaUSA website the car is coming up as a MS1 model... not an MS2 - is this possible? I thought the 03s were only made in the Spicy Orange & Black Mica... and mine certainly looks like a 3.5 anyway...

Will I be able to tell if I can get ahold of my production number?

Also - did everyone get the Sparco shift knobs? I see them in all the MSP interior photos - mine doesn't have one... it came with this instead.

not that I'm complaining on that one :D
I kind of prefer it to the sparco.... but I was curious....

Regardless I'm having a great time driving it.

Thats the 3.5 shiftknob only the black and spicy have the sparco. You also have mazdaspeed pedals as opposed to Sparco for the '03

That IS a Sparco shift knob. As well as the Sparco pedals w/ the MS logo.

Mazda farmed out a lot of the car and had their logo put on by the different vendors.

Yup...the shift knob & pedals are made by Sparco, but have the Mazdaspeed logo on it.

I prefer (and want) the Sparco shift knob...anyone with an '03 want to trade?

Call it an '03.5, but techincally they're all 2003's

No technically it's a 2003.5 Mazda calls it a 2003.5. There are differences in the cars. It's not called a 2003 for a reason.

Yeah. I had the same problem when I went to MazdaUSA's site. I called them about it and they said that all MSP's come up with that crappy pic of a regular Protege. It says MS1 to indicate it is a MSP. They suck. You would think that the corporate site could have the proper name and picture for all of their cars. I sent them an e-mail about how lame that is, but they still haven't changed it. Oh well.

I do. Maybe its just me, but I have certain expectations from corporations that I purchase through. One of those is knowledge of their own equipment. It may seem small, but I expect Mazda to understand that some people (and most of them are on this site) want to be identified as having a special car. By posting my car with a picture of a bare bone regular protege is kind of a kick in the face. I didn't buy a protege. I bought a Mazdaspeed Protege which everyone will tell you is a completely different car. Is it that hard for the IT guys at Mazda to post the car under the correct name with a proper picture?

i guess...but does it really change anything? like...does it change how your car performs or handles? or any of that stuff? i dont get it. i have a mazdaspeed protege too and i dont really care if Mazda IT department calls it MS69...oh well...

you can enter your VIN # on the website? didn't know that. can you get production # that way to or still have to call? sorry to thred jack, bored in Flash class and had to ask.

No. You still have to call the number to find your production number. Really the only benefit of the My Mazda site is for coupons for dealership maintenance and recall info.

Go back and tell them you want 125 taken of the price of ur car ( hee hee ) like that would happen ! Hell I bitched because of two little scratch's I found on mine , kind of looks like little bubbles on the lower bottom left of the knob . They tryed to say my ring did it ! And I told them NOW FREAKIN WAY my ring did NOT do that and what kind of a driver could do some s*** like that ! Talk about a gear jammer , I don't even drive my Tractor that way !

O..K.. now the services dude Brad told me they would not replace it cause my my RING did it and to talk with my salesman that sold me the mmm.... car.... and we went to the parts counter to see how much it would be to replace it and that dude said he had already ordered it ! but the cost was 35 , ya ya ya blah blah blah ! I get the knob now !

Help i need one of these knobs
