3,000 mile oil change, is it history?

Thats been a known for awhile... However I choose to the 3k simple because its already ground into my head, clean oil is alway better the slightly dirty oil, and the added peice of mind on turbo applications.

Not to mention a lot of people only check their oil every now and then. So if you have a slight oil leak or consuption issue you are more then likely are going to ruine a perfectly good engine with 7k oil change intervals compared to 3-5k.

Then again Idealy you want to check your oil when you get gas but I some times check mine 2-3 times a day just for peice of mine. Yes, I have had a engine go bad due to lack of oil and longer oil change intervals and not checking the oil like I should. Thankfully that was on my 2nd car ever and I wasn't much into cars at the time.

In my car it's every 5k. I drive rush hr for 63 miles each day. But in my 78 C10 it's still every 3k. I don't care how good the oil is, these old engines are not good at lasting if you don't change it often.

newer engine, new oil, 3k is over kill, especially synthetic

anything prior to around 2000 or so, I would change around 3k

my new oil change will be in 5000 miles (just changed to synthetic today) and will be sent in for analysis

I've bumped the Pennzoil Platinum changes in my Sport Trac to 5000 miles. The changes in my car remain every 6 months as I barely managed to put 5000 miles on it in the last 12 months. I'm using Shell Rotella in the bike, so it remains 3000.
