2nd Annual California Protege meet.

why dont we talk about this at Sevenstock?.. I find that it is more productive to have a date/time/location already chosen before posting a thread like this. It cuts down on the number of useless posts, and can really get to planning. So as I said, RoDsCALip4. we can discuss this on Sat. Looks like it could be a great turnout, especially if we can get the Nor Cal group to come down. Dont forget about our weekly meets.

and as far as using Mazda's HQ in Irvine goes.. I think that is a bit optomistic for so early in the game. If you guys want it to be as large as SevenStock is now, it will take awhile. But it will be worth it eventually, and then later I can approach them with this idea in the future. But first we need to show them, that we can plan something big. They arent going to approve of 20 -40 or so kids hanging around in the parking lot.

So lets discuss another location for this meet, and in then as it grows we can move accordingly.

sounds good to me natey. -=) we just gottah find out when.. make sure me and alex can get off work.. then we are there. -=)

I was going to say we could go to Magic Mountain, but I dunno if they'll let us hang around the parking lot and I don't think everyone would want to go there.

irvine is pretty unfair for norcal people. thats like a 1 hour drive for socalers, but a 6-7 hour for norcal.

i say early nov.

somewhere around santa barbara.

Please contact Jerry and have him organize this, he did such a great job for the first one I would only trust him to get it going once again. He is very dedicated to making the meet a succesful thing and has gone out of his way to create the website for it.

It was his original idea and something I'm sure he'd love to do again. We had a great turnout the first time and an awesome location as well. Maybe this year I can actually use some of the stuff I could win :)

id prefer if it was a lil closer up here.. cus if u think about it6 hours each way is a hell of alot of driving and alot of miles on the fizzle..

O.k. heres the e-mail I got from Jerry:

Hello again,

Let me give this some thought over the weekend. As you
may or may not know, I traded in my '99 ES for an '03
6i. Unfortunately, this 6 is rapidly deteriorating
into a lemon with major transmission, electronic
throttle, engine, and HVAC problems. I have had it
since the end of July and it has already been in the
dealership for a combined total of 13 days and I'm
taking it back in next week probably for another week
out of service. I miss my Protege! Fortunately, my
signifcant other has an '03 Protege5 (laser blue,
sport AT, loaded) that I could bring to the meet.

A meet at one of Mazda's locations in Irvine is
tempting, although it would take a lot more time and
planning... at least 4-6 months. Also, my contact at
Mazda (Tim, who brought one of the MP3s last year)
doesn't seem to be there or is on a long vacation
right now.

Among other problems (financial and flaky high-speed
internet at home), I will definitely give it some
thought and let you know Monday. Is there a location
you can think of that would be free or cheap to use
that is centrally located?

Let me see if I can meet up with you guys at
tomorrow's caravan to Sevenstock. I was there last
year and took some exclusive early pics of a black
Mazdaspeed. It would be interesting to see what they
have this year... Maybe a Mazda3?

-Jerry

So on Monday we should know if he wants to organize it or not.
I agree with Irvine being unfair to No-Cal. Santa Barbara sounds nice, all we need is someone who lives their to find out about some spots. If he doesn't want to organize this who would be willing to?

How about bakersfield? It's pretty much in the middle of CA and hard to get lost in(with it's 2 or 3 exits off one freeway). And I'm down to go, but need a 2 week notice so I can try to get the day off, and it has to be before thanksgiving. Working retail, I'm not allowed to ask for days off between the day after thanksgiving and the day after christmas.

How about somewhere along the 101 instead of the 5...

I agree, someplace along the coast it's a prettier drive and more fun to get there.

That's fine with me, I'm just familar with the 5. But if people from san diego go, or I meet up with some of the la group, I'll be fine. Plus its hard for me to get lost now that I can look up yahoo maps. Just need gps navi to make it better...
