What would it take to get 280 WHP? or at least 250 WHP? What is the weight of a msp stock? Can a hi boost intercooler support this power? It looks a little small.

well i made 284 whp with built motor big turbo etc etc. So, essentially alot.

that's all you want come on.....for 280whp, just get a 150 shot of juice and your set.
Nah I have an easier way to get 280whp! Just unhook your wastegate line and run open exhaust and your there. Why pay to play! (evil)

here is a suggestion that may help newbs and ease the frustration of all these similar post. why don't you guys that make ungodly power put together an upgrade path. start with the basics bolt ons like CAI & TBE all the way through built motors and bigger turbos. with cost, expected gains, difficulty and cost.

much like this http://www.jumptronix.com/2g_go_faster/index.htm

I have seen the DSM and 300Z guys put together 'maps' like that for newbs and it really helps out.

seems like it may be worth the effort rather than to keep bashing on the newbies.

just my $.02

on what turbo..we've seen what a stock one is capable of.

Boost controller
Boost gauge
Intake
Exhaust (turbo-back)
FMIC
EMS (controls timing)
Wideband A/F
Tubular Mani
Larger Turbo (GT28RS)
Internals
Injectors, fuel pump, maybe a better rail, etc
Weld your LCD or get a Quaife

I am sure I have forgotten something but anyway....
Lots of time, frustration, and money

You can probably get to 250 on stock internals with good management and supporting mods. Hell Rich is near 300 on stock internals, but that is crazy, unreliable, and he knows this and has a block ready to go in once he blows his.

Built Motor
Bigger Turbo
Front Mount Intercooler
Stand Alone Engine Management system
Fuel system (pump, bigger injectors)
Full Exhaust (including downpipe and midpipe)
Spec Clutch
Lightened Flywheel (might as well)

Basically, you are getting rid of your Mazdaspeed drivetrain. The stock engine is not built and will not hold 280 HP with any lifespan unless you are super lucky.

You don't need cams, ported head, ported intake, or anything to get 300 whp. It is nice, and something to think about if you want 400 hp and a 7500 rpm redline.

This is the same set up that I have ready to put in my P5. Contact MAM if you are serious.

Another Mental Addiction customer is 505 Zoom. He went a different route with his MSP. He kept many of his parts, but he is looking into a built motor at this time.

I'd say you guys should not encourage noobs to push the car so hard when they haven't done their homework. I would say convince them to calm down a bit, and make their whp goals in stages, like in 25whp increments and an ultimate goal. Mine is 250, but it's not like I'm going to get that overnight, it's going to take a lot of time, research, and bothering all you people.

I would say the stepping process should be:
1: Boost gauge, wideband O2, turboback exhaust
2: FMIC, MBC, AFC, up the boost to 10psi (maybe get some more gauges to monitor oil and coolant)
3: Tubular mani, bigger turbo (T-28 or 16G)
4: Fuel pump, injectors, and something to control the injectors
5: Forged internals, up the boost to whatever you feel comfortable with

I set my goal at 200whp with boosting no higher than 8psi. I feel this is safe for the stock internals.

215 on 9 psi is safe. You will be fine.

What system are you going with for your turbo set up? (dunno)

Are you asking me? If so, what do you mean by system?

Great comments! Make it a sticky and then every new MSP owner could check it out first thing.

you will need con rods if you want to go over 250whp daily. Other than that, there are too many variables to give you an exact answer. Tell us what you want out of the car (autoX, drag, street etc) and we can give you some ideas on how to get there. If ou are going for drag you will definately want a bigger turbo, autoX you may just want to raise compression and boost the stock turbo providing you have 92+ octane etc. 10:1 + boost is great.

well i guess i want to drag and street race on a safe empty back road. i want to run 13.5 or better better would be better but i will settle for 13.5. so far all i have is hiboost fmic, spool cai, spool turbo back with hks exhuast, and turbo xs boost controller
