225/40/17 on a 17x7?

yea you definately dont want a 225/45 on a p5, especially lowered. it will rub like a mofo unless you have like a 50+ offset. lemme guess you found the nitto on discounttiredirect or whatever? that was the only place i got a result and thats the result i got. 135 per tire as opposed to like 70+ for my 215/40s...

well, i guess 215/45/17 will have to do then(shrug)
why do you want taller tires? why not go with 215/40? the 45 isnt going to help at all for performance.

yep it was discount tire...

as for the taller tires...see under my name where it says location...nuff said ;)

moose, no way is it worth it. i wonder if they even stock those or if you would have to wait forever. imagine trying to get a tire if you blew yours!

ray - i feel ya on the location. now were on the same page.

well, now that I got the size nailed down gotta worry bout which ones...I gotta stay under $100/tire

thinkin bout
Nitto NeoGens
Dunlop FM901
Yoko AVS ES100
BF G-force Sport

when you decide to buy, i suggest talking to ken from protegegarage. i got falkens for myself and my wifes truck and we paid 800 shipped to our door for both sets.

yeah, same thing...like I said, I hated em. I felt so unsure with them, like I had good traction, but when they started to lose traction they COMPLETELY lost it, all at once...not good...plus they sucked in the rain IMO

A 225 should fit fine on a 7" rim. the probe GT came from the factory w/ 225/50/16 on 16x7 rims.

of course, mazda used an 8" rim for the same tire size on the rx-7.

yeah, but a 225/45 will DEFINITELY not fit, and we found out that 225/40/17 is an oddball size that no one really makes...hmm, i wonder about a 225/35/17

The 225/40/17 is most likely only available in the NT555 tire. THis tire is too wide of a section width for the rear of the protege. Front is not a problem.

Best of luck,

Stick with the recipe and you can't go wrong on a P5.

Even with a super high offset like +50 or +55. You'll still have problems in the rear. I've tried it all and only disclosed what would work.
