I just put new tires on my 2005 Mazda 3 and decided to finally try a bigger size tire. I installed Goodyear Eagle GT 215/50-17 tires on the stock 17x6.5 rims. They look great and give the car a much more aggressive appearance. I'll post pictures soon if anyone is interested.

Re: Just learned my 2007 Mazda 3i has 2 different tires sizes (205front/215back)

Hello all,

Apparently, I have some 215s on my back tires. I recently acquired my new-to-me 3, and after getting a ball in front-driver tire and seeking a replacement, the NTB guy informed me that my back tires are 215, even though my front ones are 205. I'm pretty sure my car still has factory rims.

From what I gathered online, the '07 3i's can handle 195s or 205s, but I thought this meant the same on all tires. Should this combo (205/215) cause any difficulty?

Personally, I wish they were all the standard 195s, because I had a '96 Honda Civic EX for 11 years with 185s, and 195s would probably be less of an adjustment in terms of car height / maneuverability. I've at least adjusted to my butt not dragging the ground anymore. (Civic seats sit almost directly on the floor v. the 2-3 in. raise of the 3's front seats, like most cars.)

215/50/17 tires are bigger in diameter and slightly wider than the factory 205/50/17 size. There is 0.4 inch or 1 cm difference in diameter. Use this calculator to see the differences and effects:

If you're not driving 9 or 10/10ths then you can probably just wear them out and get matching sizes the next time around.
