2025 Mazda CX-70 or Telluride/Palisade?

2016 Toyota Highlander
Hi I am looking for some advice.

For context, I am currently driving a 2022 Toyota Highlander Limited AWD. I have 2 kids, aged 9 and 11.

On some occasions, I have had to use the third row for transporting other kiddos from sports.

I am debating on picking up a 2025 CX-70 Turbo S Premium Plus with 10K miles on it for
Just under $40k before TTL. Seems like such a steal for a car that when new was near $60K and basically new still.

That said, I am not mechanically inclined and am debating whether it even makes sense. Considering I have a family with kids, I’d like to have the third row available as needed. The CX-90s haven’t had as good offerings.

I would like to save where I can, which is why the frugal side of me is considering the CX-70. It’s about $20K cheaper than the Korean twins!

I swear this car's headlights are the bane of my existence on the road. I don't understand it—Toyota is the world's largest automaker. They can make competent vehicles. What in sam hell is going on with their headlights, which are just torch mode LEDs with no cutoff? When one of these is sitting across the intersection pointing at me, I have to sit there with my arm blocking my eyes as the whole interior of my car is lit up like daylight. I genuinely can't see when it will be my turn to go. I have to wait for the Highlander to make the first move.

The Mazda is sounding better and better to me :D 🙈

I would stay with the Highlander.

I am hearing of some issues with these new CX70 80 90 whatever

And absolutely not Kia/Hyundai. Stay far away from those piles. Just take a look at how often they have engine, transmission failures, electronical issues,..

I have never had issues with the headlights 😂

I wanted to stick with the highlander. This is my second one and a newer generation. However I am seeing a decline in the quality of Toyotas vehicles. For instance, lots of creaks and groans and rattles with the car, the transmission (UA80) seems to have a class action against it now with many owners reporting premature failure, amongst other minor things like rust in seat tracks, squeaky struts when rear latch opens etc.

My biggest concern is the tranny, people reporting it goes out right after warranty, and is a 10k job. Don’t want to be holding the bag when that happens.

Normally i rank Mazda high in reliability, but the CX-70/CX-90 are in their first years and have a lot of new unproven components.

The CX and the telluride are two very different vehicle though. I highly recommend you try both. The Mazda is sportier but doesn’t come close to the Kia/Hyundai in terms of interior space and useable amenities. If you are looking for a good size 3 row with practicality the Kia/Hyundai are a lot better.

Why is the Honda Pilot/Passport not on your list?

Thank you everyone for their inputs thus far, the pilot isn’t off my list. I know it’s the safe choice here and honestly checks all the boxes. I just can’t seem to love it though. Also, if anyone was wondering why I am on a Mazda board, I have a Cx-5 that has been amazing. Those feelings made me want to jump into a larger version of it but I am trying to be cautious and careful

Their headlights are aimed way too high. Our grand highlander was the same way. Got flashed everywhere at night until I manually aimed them down to correct spec lol

That being said, we traded in the Grand highlander on a 2025 cx70 preferred. 20k miles so far and no issues. Fun to drive, good highway cruiser, etc.

Idk where you are, but in Ohio theres a boatload of CPO cx90's to be had for high 20's low 30's and turbo S's in the 40's.

If you want the 3rd row just in case, broaden your dealership search beyond local!
