2022 CX-9 TP Infotainment Issues - USB Flash Drive with music

I have had this car for 2 years now and it never fails to befuddle me. Fore example, the low volume rear speakers. Just stupid. It is a car, not a concert hall (with this Bose setup). All passengers should be the first consideration of any car system. Stupid. Not having a midrange andjustment, also stupid (and costs literally nothing in include).

My primary question is that I have a USB Flash drive on which I have put about 50 music albums (mp3). I have used this with glorious success in my previous Pilots and Highlanders. There is always a way to see what is on the flash drive... a list by artist, a list by album and a list by songs. It also has a method for scrolling down these lists to find what you want and change what you are currently listening to. So far, I have found that Mazda Connect does not connect at all. I see no logical way to do any of these things. The manual has nothing on it and says the website has more info. I have not been able to find anything on these functions, if they even exist.

Can someone please enlighten me? I am at a loss. Come on Mazda. The whole rear speaker thing has me a bit pessamistic about this important part of the car driving experience.

Thanks, Larry

Your flash USB. What's the size and how it is formatted. Mazda only accept the flash drive in FAT system. Just FAT, not exFAT. Now Windows won't allow you to format usb flash more than 32GB in size. You can use bigger usb size with Mazda but you need to find a different formatting tool for Windows. Stupid limitation but there is no other way.

This is the link to Mazda manuals:

Just choose your year and model and you get access to complete infotainment manual. You can find there all the details about types of audio files and specs regarding USB flash drives you can use.

Now this is the link to another thread regarding your rear speaker complain:
Please read my last post. Maybe it's going to give you some ideas about Bose system in Mazda and functionality of different speakers.

Funny thing is that in Mazda standard audio system you do have access to full equalizer with multiple frequency bands but Bose completely removes this feature and leaves only bass and treble. I agree it's stupid and reading the manual it gives the impression that it is available in all trims. Well, imagine my initial disappointment when I picked up my car.

Hi Michal,

Thanks for your reply. It was very helpful. I can now access the USB playback controls!

The Bose sound system is just a mess. I think that Mazda bought into "Bose is a strong selling point" without actually caring about the sound quality. I knew it would be problematic when I leased the car (it is Bose, after all) but it wasn't a deal killer. Nevertheless, I still wish it wasn't as inane as it turned out to be. I feel your disappointment. I do wonder if there is a way to manipulate/modify the sound system to make an improvement. I was thinking about adding a tweeter to the rear doors. My main concern is that I don't know if the rear door speakers are the response issue or if the actual audio signal dumbed down. I tried to improve the "sub"- woofer but could not hear a difference. I must have not properly installed the improvements I have read about.
