2022 CX-9 Headlight Issues?

Hey All,

I had a great 2010 CX-9 Touring for years, got an away from Mazda but now looking to get back in a 2022 CX-9 Signature. I love everything about it except the headlight issues I’ve been reading about. Are these issues really common?? For those that had issues, Is it something that happened over time or noticed it quickly?

Thanks! - Eric C

Flickering when going over bumpy roads and dealerships denying the issue. Really hoping this is an unfortunate but rare problem.

Eric, I have a '21 and the headlights work perfectly fine.

I'm not sure if the "flickering" you're referring to is in terms of light output - it's constant.

What I DID notice however is when going over hard bumps or pot holes, the lights sometimes shudder as a result of the impact but it's negligible - to me anyway. I am guessing this is due to the adaptive mechanism that allows the lights to move sideways when turning. Since it is a point of mobility - unlike fixed, stationary headlights - it is susceptible to some movement, no matter how little.

Now remember, this doesn't happen all the time but when the road bump is significant enough to jar the whole vehicle, the lights will shudder a little bit.

I can confirm this. I have a 2018 with the adaptive, auto-leveling headlights and there is a tiny bit of movement when the car hits a sharp road imperfection. It appears as a "flicker" to oncoming drivers down the road because the cutoff line from the projectors is closer to their eyeline. To the driver, it's barely noticeable. I think it's normal for these lights, with all those moving parts.

I appreciate the responses everyone. I feel reassured…
Happy Thanksgiving all!
