2021 CX-9 Liftgate opening dimensions?

New here and glad i found this forum!

We're looking into buying a 2021 CX-9 Grand Touring and will need to mount a wheelchair hoist in the back. The hoist has a small footprint and according to the manufacturer, will fit in the cargo area.

My question is can someone measure the dimensions of the trunk opening? We have to make sure the chair will fit!

Thanks in advance!

Sure, let me measure it for you. I have a 2018 but the liftgate dimensions will be the same for all 2016-2023 CX-9s.

Here you go. I took a few extra dimensions in case you may have wanted them, but if there are any measurements you need that I didn't include, just let me know and I can get them for you.

A - Load floor width: 41"
B - Width at the bottom of the windshield: 43.25"
C - Width between 3rd row seatbelt bulge: 39"
D - Height from load floor sides to windshield: 21"
E - Height from center of load floor to windshield: 19.5"

All measurements are approximates! Also, you can add 0.25" to the height measurements if you aren't using the OEM cargo mat.

Thanks so much for this great info! Can you also measure from the door sill to the top of the hatch opening? I've marked in yellow the dimension I need. Again, thanks so much!

Sure, that one is approximately 37.5". Also, the height from the top of the hatch opening straight down to the load floor is about 29", just in case you want that measurement as well.

Is 37.5´´ the diagonal between the top and bottom opening and 29’’ the actual vertical height? That is what I understand but want to clarify for those that don’t own a cx-9 and it may not be obvious that the top of the opening is not in line with the rear of the car and may wrongly interpret it as 37.5’’ of height.

Yes that's correct, 37.5" is the diagonal measurement of the opening, while 29" is the vertical height from the load floor to the lowest point in the middle of the ceiling. To better illustrate it for @tomzoo:
