2021 CX-5 Turbo feels slow after TSB fix

Hi all. I bought a 2021 CE turbo about a month ago and had the valve seal replacement TSB done. I got the car back today and the power seems substantially lower. Lower as in less power than the non-turbo model I turned in that they gave me as a loaner. It seemed to also shift oddly when getting to 4k+ rpms (it seems to hang out up there a bit before shifting). All in all, much less quick than before, and like I said, felt much less powerful than the NA model I literally drove to turn back in.

Any ideas? The Mazda app showed all kinds of "vehicle issue detected" messages when they were working on it (I assume from disconnecting the battery etc etc and working on it). One said "Engine malfunction. Engine output will be reduced..."

I initially thought maybe I need to do the transmission learning reset thing, but then remembered this warning message. I have no idea what to do (I will call the dealership tomorrow morning; a little worried they will charge me just to look at it). They also did some carbon clean up deal when it was with them. It felt great before I took it in and was very quick/peppy. Now it just feels sluggish across the board.

Any help or info would be much appreciated!

When I got engine replaced, something was not installed properly. No engine light, no warning of any sort. My turbo somehow was not spooling at all and it was worst than the NA cx-5 loaner. So my guess is they messed up somewhere and your turbo isn't working.

I think you might be right. It very much feels like the turbo is not doing anything at all. I wondered how to check that myself but have no clue where I would even begin. I'm guessing make another appointment with the dealership is the only way to go? Here's to hoping they'll take it in earlier than the next available appointment >a week from now (like I mentioned, just got it back today after being there for 3 weeks).

Roll down your window, punch the gas and let off. If the turbo is working, you should hear the wastegate letting the excess boost out. If you don't hear anything then likely the turbo is not making boost

Didn't hear any sound from the turbo. Just dropped it off at the dealer again. They said the tech test drove it yesterday and said it was all good.

It very much felt like at higher rpms it just kind of lagged there in power. Even when it finally shifted up, being at lower rpms felt like it had more power (upshifting and going to like 2k rpms from 5k-ish rpms). Hopefully they find something :(

This is the normal character of the 2.5T. You'll feel it pull a lot harder after an upshift due to the powerband.

So the loose (or not connected) connector to the turbo was 100% the issue. It drives like normal again and is BEYOND a noticeable difference when the turbo was not working. Was more sluggish than the NA CX-30 that they gave me as a loaner when it was not working (particularly at any RPMs above ~2k).

And thanks to everyone for your help, I appreciate it.
