2016 cx5 GT - no light in glove compartment?

In the words of Chris top her.....have you guys considered modding the glove compartment yet?

I say we retrofit some aftermarked HIDs in there. That'll surely take thieves by surprise and blind them for a good 10 minutes.

My glove compartment has a light that comes on at the same time the car detects that the navigation interface should be dimmed not to blind you. Have you checked this? Its a european 2013/2014 model. No lock though
Another Euro feature on CX-5 we don't get... (notcool)

Once in your car, whats to stop a thief from breaking the lock (another out of pocket expense to you) and stealing its contents?

Yeah, if they can get in the car, they can get in the glove box. At least I've never seen a glove box that took more than 3 seconds to break open.

where do you all store your registration and insurance papers if you don't put them in the glove box?

Nobody said they didn't keep their registration and proof of insurance in their glove box. So I'm confused why you thought someone said they didn't use the glove box for those items.

If you think a glove box with a locking latch can't be popped open in 3 seconds, well, you had better think again. I remember when the registration would commonly be carried in a little holder that was held to the steering column by a steel spring.

Just wondering - if EU models come with glove box lighting I am pretty sure the wiring, notches, etc. will all be there already in NA models? Can someone who owns an EU model be kind enough to share the specifics - where is the light located, what are the part #s, bulb, etc. ? Maybe its a matter of just purchasing and installing it?

I remember owning a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe and in the NA models they forgot to include a cabin filter. All that was required was popping it open and putting one in. I agree in this case there's a wiring harness but it could be that the wiring's already there?

Only used locking glove boxes in convertibles which sorely need them.

The Honda CRV has neither a lock nor light in the glove box.

Two wrongs don't make a right. There's a lighted sun visor on the driver side of the CX-5, which I suspect is very useful when fixing make-up while driving (sarcasm off) but I can't comprehend why Mazda determined that a lighted glove box wasn't necessary.

I know this is an old thread but... today i had to take out the glove box to add a pac adapter for a powered subwoofer and i saw a wire going to the latch of the glovebox and followed. Turns out my car does have the light fixture in place but it did not have a bulb in it.

Went to my toolbox and got a t10 bulb and pop it in. Works when the parking lights are on.

Worth mention it just to see if all cx5 are equipped with this and is just missing the bulb.

Heres a picture for reference. The wire is highlighted with the red arrow and also shows the location of the socket.

hmm very interesting. Does it require the removal of the glove box to get to it? I will certainly check but only if I don't have to dissemble my glove box lol

This is so mysterious though. All the wiring and sockets in place but simply missing a cheap light bulb. Why Mazda, why?

You dont have to remove it. You can feel it by touch. Is just to the right of the glovebox latch on the console. If the wire is there and it has a socket, you're golden.

I will check tomorrow when I get off work!

Just checked my 2016 GT and the little hole is there but there is no wiring going to it and no socket to plug a bulb into. I wonder if there is a harness that can be bought or made that plugs into somewhere that would give you the light socket?

It's very easy to get there - that's the cabin air filter and you can look up a video on how to replace it. No tools, 10 seconds.

No wire here. Seems US spec models do not include this.

That was the same on my CX-3 - the UK version has the light but the US version didn't. Perhaps Mazda think you guys are fed entirely on carrots as my 2016 CX-5 has the glove box light.

Hi Anchorman,
Can you perhaps trace the glove box light wires and provide some info on where it leads to as well as possible wire colors?

Appreciate the effort.
