2015 CX-5 GT Cabin Filter?

:
K2500 Diesel Suburban; 2016 CX5 GT
Just passed the 4K mark on my CX-5 GT. Over half way to my first service which I'm probably going to do myself. I've asked my dealer to send me the free oil change maintenance program which lists everything they do. Still waiting to receive but I think I remember it saying they change the cabin air filter. Is this necessary? What does it really do? I understand it's not hard to change but this is my first car that ever had one. What's the thoughts out there? Thanks

Not unless you live in the Sahara desert or experienced a sand storm recently. Of course the dealer will want to change it, they charge around $30.00 for two minutes of work.

I think the manual calls for 20k... I changed mine a few weeks ago. Cost $10 for the part and 2 minutes of time. Very easy.

Just like the air filter in your homes HVAC system, it is there to remove particles of dust, dander, and other items from the air, and prevent them from being inhaled by you.

The cabin air filter, filters out the air coming into the cabin for you to breathe.

It also prevents the foreign particles from dirtying and coating the plumbing of your cars HVAC system, which can lead to mold and other issues.

Keeps leaves and debris out of the fan too, eliminating that annoying clicking that will inevitably occur. I found a fair amount of leaves and elm pollen on my filter.

Your Mazda owners manual has a list of everything that is required. Dealers, very often have their own agenda and often recommend the costly and unnecessary. Owners manuals should always be read and taken to a dealer for any scheduled service as a back up to fend off extra charges. Ed

YES!

I used to live under oak trees that would drop all of the tassels and pollen. With the older cars, you would be sometimes greeted with a surprise "confetti" shower upon use.

Thanks! That's got to be one of the easiest maintenance items to check/change.
