Saw this on autoblog. I wonder when we are going to get the full redesign? This looks like just a new front on the same car with same engine/transmission combo. I guess this means we are at least 2 years out from a full redesign. I doubt they would go to the trouble for only 1 model year.

I am not sure I like the new front end, looks weird, kind of like fish with open mouth :). I guess you either like this new style or you dont.

Thanks to yifei for posting a heads up as well about the upcoming 2013 CX-9...I've merged our threads to keep this topic organized...:D

Is everything the same from the A-pillar back?

I'll reserve judgement on the new design, but at first glance it looks awkward.

OK, new lamp treatment and sensors up front. Oversized hood. Infinity grill. Looks more like a penis now. Probably good for sales. ;-)

As a multimedia producer myself, I respect the car company that has design language in its line up. yes, it's easier for the big players like BMW, TOYOTA(I mean Lexus :>), VW to achieve that; But in this case I gave full credit to Mazda team.
Some times they did it right or wrong. but this case, this is a mid-full size 7 seats CUV that has been around since 2007, and correct me if Im wrong, is this the second time Cx-9 Facelift makeover? (Last time 2010). Wow! I gotta say, If the next CX-9
release around 2014, that means we are talking about 8 years life line for CX-9!
I hope the real next gen CX-9's body proportion between body and face will be more balanced than this one.
Also, Just dont think this look can goes well with Roof Rail on top the car. or maybe not. just a thought!

This may be the new "face" of the sky-active 2014, so better get used to it. ;-)

Well, it's not homely, so much. It's OK. And a little more Euro styled. The CX-9 has always suffered from a severe overbite and lumpy rear end anyway.

My suspicion is that the redesigned 2014 will just look like an oversized CX-5.

So this is just the start. You can get a closer look at the overall CX-5 styling here.

geeze how many times are they gonna change the front end around. I guess its in a competition with XC-90 to see who can do the most face-lifts.

No matter how many times they do it, and how far they progress, the goofy Mazda grin will ALWAYS be there. ;-))

This latest revision is a little better looking than the original refresh, at least in IMHO. I would like to see some rear shots, and the interior too.

It really does seem like way too much effort, for a supposed last year of the 1st gen. I would not be surprised if they decide to wait 2-3 more years for a true 2nd gen. This would give them more time to develop a 4 cylinder engine that can haul the bulk of a cx9 around, and potentially lessen some of that bulk too.

I'm for any change that reinforces the family resemblance of the Mazda line. I think that platform is difficult to put a pretty face on. Just look at the MKX.

Maybe this will buy Mazda more time to re-think the changes to the 2nd generation CX9. If nothing else the upgrades will help me since I will be buying one of the last copies of the CX9 to hold me over until they come to their senses. Sorry, I'm just not a fan of the next generation CX9.

I like the frontend of the new mazda6 better..but this one looks nice too

It looks like the tail lights got redesigned too. I don't much care for the round exhaust tips over the original CX-9 oval ones.
